I have a friends who thinks that her son accidentally got a hold of a 9 volt battery and touched his eye with it. She found him crying coming out of a room where she found the battery. He was holding his eye. She said that she rinsed his eye but he still cried for awhile afterward. I'm just wondering if it could have caused permanent damage. Anyone experienced such an injury?

LOl at first answer. I never heard that before. I was gonna suggest finding out firsthand: take a 9 volt battery and stick your tongue to it for just a second. You'll get a strong tingling sensation, or barely a little twinge, depending on the strength left in the battery. I don't think there's enuf juice in a 9 volt to kill or maim.

However, since this injury was to a child's EYE, I think a visit to the dr. would be in order, just to be safe. I expect the toddler got a surprising, painful shock from the battery, and may well have injured his eye.

BTW, if it's any comfort, I never knew anyone who lost their tongue tip to a 9 volt battery. Mine's fine anyway.

If the child received a light electrical burn, there should be evidence. Damage should be assessed by a trained medical person. Be sure the battery was not leaking as this would pose a more severe injury. Check the battery closely and thoroughly flush the baby's hands and eye with warm water for 15 minutes (on the way to the emergency room).

He probably just poked himself in the eye. The only possible injury would be a scratch on his cornea. If his eye continues to bother him, take him to the eye doctor for antibiotic drops.

That's how Hitler got started. He was an otherwise normal baby until that day he found 'the battery'. Then he killed 6 million jews. Who knew a battery could do all that?
