Threre are a few points that might be relevant (and contribute to various degrees):
1) Every species has a tendency to protect its offspring (else it would disappear in due course)
2) People do something coz they enjoy it (children are our extensions) or fear something (solitude or lack of support in the old age)
3) Environment has an effect on us (we being social animals). So tradition might have instilled some values(if we may call them that)
4) Children are our most loved ones (compared to other relatives) and some of us enjoy making "sacrifices" for our loved ones
And the list may go on...
Essentially, a full life is one wherein we, in our death bed, can look back and say 'Phew! what a wonderful ride'. So, anything that can contribute to that is worth living for and we all have our own set of priorities.

Most people do not live to have children, but when we do they become our priority (or should be). Part of it is biological, the need to continue the species; it is spiritual, our glimps of imortality, knowing that a piece of us will live on for eternity; vanity, look at what we did; and the total unconditional love and exceptance (or should be) in a parent child relationship. Is an emotion that can never truely be understood until you have children of your own. And when/if you have your own child, then you will understand why your mother didn't run you over with the car when you were a snotty, know-it-all teenager.

Money is the biggest constraint in people's life. Further mind set of the people is such that they live in future and ignore present which is more precious. They want to save for future, for rainy day only and not for celebration. So they save and wait for rainy day. Two things are needed to lead balanced life i.e. money to spend on ur hobbies including social work and thinking so that they appreciate their present and not obsessively concerned about worse future. If they think their future will be bright by grace of God they will have good future and if they think negative, even with money and family they will be unhappy as they are sowing seeds of negativity now which will reflect in their future.

My husband and I are not having kids. We decided that we wanted dogs instead. We want to be able to travel and see the country we live in. After that we will start traveling around the world. I know what you mean though. Were Jewish and that is all our parents talked about. Now that your married it's time to have kids. You can imagine how pissed off they were when we told them there wouldn't be any.

If people bring up their children to be good citizens and to care about their country and their world then it will all have been worth it. My wife and I never had children. We have dogs instead and have led very full, adventurous lives.

You obviously don't have children, when you do you will understand. Now, from a scientific point of view, just as other species, our purpose for being here is survival of the species....reproduction.

i think for the most part we all sort of want to pass on our spirt, genes, soul, and keep it here.
but some don't want to have kids
some want the first statement so bad they will have kids.
but i'm sure that over 99 percent of humans want to stay here and continue to distroy earth,.
I currently work to spoil my self i have yet to make that decistion if i want kids or not but your right if i have kids i willl work to keep it and turn that kid into a leader. and have him change the world..

They want their children to have a better life then they had, and that's how they enjoy themselves by knowing that they did for their kids. Very unselfish of them.

I don't know, but it is strange. I don't want kids. I remember that I was a kid and if my parents had made that decision.. I wouldn't be here!
