McKenize - you pretty much nailed it. I am an american, a capitalist, who believe capitalism is what made us great, and I despise socialism and its inherent dishonesty. If you will note, not one socialist or liberal (socialists in publicly acceptable clothing) even tried to answer, they cannot, they cannot stand the truth that what they profess is the dogma a 200 year old failed philosophy. They call themselves liberals, they lie, they are not liberals, they are MARXISTS, and will not admit it because it completely discounts them to americans.

I'm a democrat, and it upsets me a great deal.
I believe in free speech (even for Republican talk show hosts).
I believe in free expression (including for conservative Christians).
I believe in equality (not special rights for special groups).
I hate socialism and liberalism which is just a mask for the same thing (as it is today).
I am a patriot, first, a democrat, second.
Are you the same? Or are you just setting one side of the country against the other in the same way they are?
Your questions seem to place you firmly as Republican.
Am I talking to a fellow American? Or something else? (Not an insinuation. I don't know unless you tell me).

I must admit that I am liberal minded, but not even close to being a socialist.
There is some confusion being European liberalism, which is socialism plain and simple, and American liberalism, as it formed in the 18th century.
As an American liberal, I want equal opportunity for those people in this country who can succeed. I feel that if a child is born into poverty and has a 180 IQ, that child should receive the best education society can provide. In the same sense, however, a child born into poverty with am 80 IQ shouldn't expect to get a Harvard education. They should recieve the best education for their level of intellect. And that education should be aimed at their succeeding in life on their own.
I feel that a person with a limited education and a lesser IQ should be able to succeed in life with the sweat of his brow and the strength in his back. Today's labor market seems to be leaving these people behind.
I feel the average American needs protection from big business and unfair business practices. There is a major problem today in the credit industry. Many unsuspecting people are getting shackled with debts that can never be paid off. There is a general feeling, which is even displayed by people in this forum, that if you are uneducated and not capable of managing your finances properly, then it's okay for smart educated people to victimize you.
There was a time in this country when a person worked hard, built a better product, or provided an outstanding service in order to prosper. Today it's become a race to beat the other guy, or trick a person out of their money. Be smarter than the other person has become the credo in a nation that once just wanted to build a better mousetrap.
I believe the playing field needs leveling today more so than ever before.
I don't believe, however, that Americans need to be placed on a government dole program. I don't believe that once a person obtains wealth that his or her wealth becomes the property of the government. That takes the entire point of achievement away from the system.
I don't believe that non-achievers should benefit from the work of achievers. I do think that achievers need to provide the opportunity for other achievers to achieve.
As a liberal minded person, I am completely against programs like the current welfare system that perpetuates poverty and encourages broken homes.
There are many ways that liberalism can be applied in this country with practicality. The problem with practicality is that it seems to escape too many people who are liberal or conservative.

I believe that liberals are definitely socialist. Liberals believe that the rich should be punished for their successes. The elite left realizes that you can not take control of people without fear or bait. Liberals and socialists both use bait, because fear would insight rebellion. Once the socialists have the people addicted to dependence, then they can be more outright with their tyranny.

go back... read my answer from your last question... and tell me WHERE YOU STOPED UNDERSTANDING AND WHAT BRIDGES I NEED TO GAP FOR YOU...
sorry I was apparently moving much too fast...
you're also asking 5 different questions in there... and then wondering why people may be confused?
come on though... are you even trying... or can you not just stick to one subject long enough to even ask a question and have to go into 10 other subjects?
all you had to do is ask me to clarify it for you if you didn't understand?
you're relay asking about the ideological links between the two... not these silly questions you're complaining no one is answering... if you even understand what you're asking
EDIT: I made my answer a little more direct... so you could understand it.. .check it out...
HOW AM I BEING DISINGENUOUS? please do explain it to me?

Many self described liberals are socialists. I haven't heard any other liberals complaining about this. I can draw only 1 conclusion from this & I'm sure you know exactly what that is.

So now that America is falling like a rock...what is the system it had? Liberals...conservatives...I can thank you all for the destruction of America. So keep debating as the US rots. The outside world is counting on your deluded views of the "great" US.

you are asking a liberal for a straight answer?...good luck!
classic liberalism ala george washington and thomas jefferson, is dead and buried with them and has been replaced by this modern blend of marxist/leninist/stalinst ideology fostered during the sixties after communism went underground in the fifties as a result of the heroic efforts of senator joe mcarthy who began exposing them and their subversive intentions. at that time, the communists were infiltrating the american work force with great success through its labor unions, its media via hollywood, radio, television, the major newspapers such as the new york times, and , of course, politics...any fair minded person can see this influence in any of these mileu today and i believe it is time once again to begin a new 'expulsion' of the traitors in our midst.

SOCIALIST=a person who favors and supports socialism. Socialism=A system based on public ownership of the means of production and distribution of wealth.
Isn't that what liberals are doing? Distributing our money to everyone else, with programs.
Sounds to me like they are inter-changeable....lol.
