What the heck kind of question is this?! I'm getting really sick of people judging everyone they run into, because of one or two bad experiences.! SOME American women, I admit, compete with their boyfriends, or husbands, because it's what they do. Because it's the couple's own little thing, and even skinny women do it. Yes, some female that do it have a bit a of a problem, but not all. Other can just do it for fun. If you want to know why, ask one! Some women can burn off the fat, other can't. Sometimes it's not their fault, if their metabolism sucks, other times it IS their fault, for not working out and taking care of themselves. But when that's the case, they have a lot more to worry about then Indian women. Whom, can also be Americans, so don't pull that crap. I'm Indian, I admit I have a good figure, but that's because i take care of myself. But regardless of my Race, I am also an American.
You can't blame females for being '"obese", sometimes, you can't bring Race into this without taking responsibility for it, (meaning, "Expect to get bashed")... You can't go off and judge an entire country, because of one two people you might've stumbled upon... As an acquaintance of my said, "Think twice, act once."

I only eat once a day or every other day sometimes. I still get fat. Not morbidly fat like some people, but it dosent really make sense to me how I eat so little but am so prone to retaining weight. It think it has a lot to do with the food qualtiy here in America, which sucks. There are lot of additives in the food. The FDA is a joke. Its all about profit. We cant even export out most of our food products to other countries its so bad. (Except for maybe grain, to countries in need)
Indian women are mostly vegetarians. Wish I knew how to cook all that good food with just vegetables and nuts. But I have seen lots of Indian women get fat from eating our food, especially if she did not grow up here and is not adapted to it.
btw I have never heard about a woman competing with a man to eat the same amount. That is just silly. Where did you hear that?

I don't think that's true. being an american woman, I'm positive that I don't try to compete with my BF, especially, when it comes to eating. That a little ridiculous. I think America is simply just a fat country, men and women alike. I've seen many FAT and Obese indian women.

most indian women I see are fat. not the younger ones..but the ones that are 30, 40 and up. It seems to me that in Indian culture it is ok for women to be fat. these are usually women that have had kids though. but americans do eat more than other countries. I don't think that it is just limited to women, but men as well. it;s the american way...excess everything

American women probably still eat less than American men, but American men eat a lot. Why don't you find that wrong? American women don't "eat so much" anyway. That's not even true. And there are a lot of thin American women. Way to be sexist.

Um, what? Food competitions? I think you're a little off. Yes, American woman are fatter and so are American men. Americans in general are fatter. I am an American woman and have never taken part in this type of competitive eating ritual. That is just gross. It's just a matter of preferences and cultural influence. I am personally not influenced by fast food and large portions. A lot of people are.

I am American and I love to eat but I am not obese. Most of what people eat, who might become obese, is unhealthy food. I think its not about outeating the men but its just an addiction.

I don't know where you got your information but it's not accurate. American women are NOT more obese or overweight than American men, in fact, American Women are slightly healthier because our statistics are falling where as men are rising. I'm American and no woman I know, including myself competes with her mate during meals...that's an absurd generalization. And not that it matters but I've seen just as many overweight Indian women as American...not sure what that's about?

Why are you just thinking about women? Both men and women in America are increasingly obese. This is something you'd expect from a country overrun by fast-food joints and microwave-sized dinner plates. Meanwhile, the Indian diet places far more emphasis on vegetables and meat alternatives. You're very lucky.

They only eat less in the parts of India that are poor because they are struggling to put food on the table.
In the wealthy areas of India, they are facing an increasing obesity problem.
I think someone has been watching too many Bollywood movies!
