i listened to a lady on tv today saying she was against the death penalty until a close family member was brutally murdered. Until you walk a mile in their shoes, you have no idea.

Anyone who calls themselves a Christian should be against the death penalty. In the OLD Testament Moses says an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. In the New Testament, the basis of Christianity, this is what is said:

In his Sermon on the Moun,t Jesus put Moses’ law into a broader perspective: “You have heard that it was said, ‘an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you, do not resist one who is evil. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also; if anyone would sue you and take your coat, let him have your cloak as well; and if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.” [Mt. 5:38-41]

To remove someone who is dangerous to society, put him in jail. With automatic death penalty appeals process and the years people wait on death row, it ends up being just as expensive to put someone to death as it is to have them serve their life in prison.

True power lies in forgiveness. True power lies in love. Although the world will always be violent, the way to work towards peace is not by more violent acts and killing of others.

Here's a thought: If a doctor kills a patient by an egregious, completely neglient, medical error, should we kill the doctor? The worst that can happen to them is a horrendous malpractice lawsuit. But yet in a way doctors and others contributed to these VA Tech deaths by not getting the proper treatment for Cho. Cho was right in his diatribe. There are people with blood on their hands.

I do not know why we kill people who have killed. I don't think it shows killing people is wrong, that's for sure. It silently condones it. Many families whose relatives are murdered DO forgive. It does happen. And they are better off for it.

It is a barbaric practice. In the world today;

89 nations have abolished the Death Penalty

10 have abolished the Death Penalty for all offences except under special circumstances

29 others have not used it for at least 10 years

69 nationas retain it.

But of these 69, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, and the U.S. are the only fully developed and democratic countries that have retained the death penalty.

The death penalty is overwhelmingly practiced in poor, nondemocratic, and authoritarian states, which often employed the death penalty as a tool of political oppression.

That is why the Death Penalty is wrong.

I have always wondered this myself. It seems pointless that we kill those that kill. I think America is very Hypocritical at times. Alot is wrong with society today and I wonder how it got to be this way. I think more people are out for themselves in todays world and that is the wrong attitude to have. You would think that with all the rich people in the world there wouldn't be starving people on the streets. MONEY IS THE BIGGEST DOWNFALL OF OUR TIME. In the old days you saw people work hard, and work together to survive. Now a days we have jerks that sit in there air conditioned offices all day doing nothing. Don't get me wrong I am not saying there are not hard working people in this world, I know there are! My family is one!

I'm not so sure that the death penalty was instituted to show anything to anyone, other than this is what happens if you commit crimes egregious enough to warrant the penalty. It's about punishment and retribution.

Now, if you asked: "Why do we kill people who kill people if killing people is such an horrendous crime?"

Or: "Why do we kill people who happen to be poor at a much higher rate than those who are privileged?"

Or: "Why is the death penalty meted out in such a inequitable fashion?"

Or: "Why is the death penalty left to the states to decide if it is such a weighty issue?"

repeat ad nauseum

To show dire consequences. If a dog goes mad and kills, it dies and that's the right thing to do. If a person goes mad and kills that person should be killed. Rehab is a waste of time. I'm so sick of reading about mothers killing their helpless children and pedophiles being released to abuse again. What good are these people to society? A bullet in the head is cheap (compared to rehab or prison stay) and effective in deterring reoffense.

I guess getting even is in our nature. Everything has to be equal-- a favor for a favor, a life for another life. If we want to make progress, this process has to stop NOW. Start loving and stop hating. Someone has got to take the initiative so why not do it together? The past is past but if we stop killing today there will be less hate tomorrow.

Why do idiots capitalize the first letter of every word when the proper usage is to only capitalize the first letter of the first word in a sentence?

We kill the killers not to show its wrong, but, because it is the right thing to do.

I have asked the exact same question. I don't get it. It is not a deterrent, and it seems to be a mockery. Death row lasts a very long time-appeals appeals appeals
