Today, it is commonly used for AA (Alcoholics Anonymous). However, it is an older symbol in which the triangle represents a union of the body, mind, and soul and circle represents the Divine.

It means they are trying to fit into the world somewhere. They are lost, they may never know the meaning of their life. The triangle represents an odd shape (the person) trying to fit into the cycle of all things (the circle). Be nice to these poor individuals as they have a very hard life.
