I'm 12 and i have been wondering about the new vaccine for cervical cancer. There is no history of it in my family but it seems like a good idea to get? What are the pros and cons of the vaccine? What do you think of it? I have heard that some schools are making it mandatory for girls to get it (my school doesn't) why is this and what do you think about? If I decide I want it how do I tell/ask my mom I want it or if I can get(I haven't really talked to her about "girl stuff")?

OK you have good questions and your Mother is the best one to begin those talks. Don't worry she is ready to talk about the "girly stuff."

The vaccine is NOT mandatory. It is three shots and very expensive. The Federal Government is considering ways to help people without insurance get the vaccine. The vaccine is very new and the long term side effects are not known.

Time to go sit in a quiet room with your Mother and ask all those questions.
