My betta is moping around. It seems like he's sleeping. But he does this all day and he's barely eating. I hope his injured tail, isn't hurting him in anyway :-(

It could be that your fish is just recovering, but bettas often act lethargic and "sad" when their environmental conditions aren't up to standard (which is the major cause of diseases like finrot). Make sure your water is in the high 70s, preferably 80F. Your fish is dependent on you to keep him warm enough so he can be active and heal properly. Secondly, test your water or have it done at a store (just bring some in a water bottle). Excessive dissolved nitrogen waste (ammonia, nitrite especially) from fish waste and rotten food will prevent your fish from healing and high enough levels will kill your fish.

Whew! So basically, make sure you cover your bases before you throw in meds. (melafix is a good product, but wont really help if the water's no good)

First, getting hurt always tires you.Same for a fish. Bettas and gouramies ( bettas counsins) like to be slow and not playful.(couch potatoes). Thats why people have some zebra danios that have battery bodies and a bright colorful Betta that gives the color to the aquarium!

Bettas are always like this, they have a slow metabolism and dont like to move, and especially since his tail is recovering, he should act a little more mopey then usual for about a week. Its true that fins recover on their own but you might want to check for fin rot.

He wouldn't be in any pain, but it's his natural instinct to hide and be still when injured in any way. It also prevent over use of the injured area and allows more rapid healing. Nothing to worry about.

bettas arent very active fish to begin with i think that he is perfectly normal
if hes not then there really is much that you can do to make a fish better so i would just wait and hope for the best
good luck and i hope his fin gets better!

Get some Melafix for him, it will heal faster.

My Black Moor hat his tail bitten of by my other comets, and it took almost 1 year for it to grow back.
