How does buying a bumper magnet help support the troops? I know these people mean well but it is not a realistic or helpful way to support this cause and I've even read articles where troops who were interviewed admitted to being offended by them.

Do proceeds from those magnets go to support the troops? No. Because of they did, this would be a strong selling point which would be prominently displayed to buyers on the packaging. But there's never any mention of monetary donations to support troops.

Have you also noticed that most of these bumper magnets are "Made in China"? So who exactly is profiting from these mass-produced and mass-sold magnets? Someone is getting rich off of them.

mlee: Are you actually saying that just because an answer is given by a soldier, the answer should be immune to criticism? You may have blind faith in those who serve for our country however I have a mind of my own. I have a lot of respect for soldiers but that doesn't mean I'm going to "thumbs up" thier answers automatically. A soldier's opinion is open to feedback just the same as an average civilian's opinion.

Because it's easier than actually doing something.

I have many of them on my car and I happen to be a mother, whose daughter is in Iraq right now, for the 2nd time. Why put a Christmas, Halloween, Easter decoration in your window?? It's expressing how you feel. Buying a bumper sticker, magnet, or whatever is telling people you ARE supporting what they are doing.

In my town, a military town, many ppl sport the ribbons on their vehicles. Military personnel fly in and out of here all the time and they are greeted with this. Also, many military families live in the area and have ribbons and flags on their cars.

I did not buy a ribbon. I combined my money with many others in the community and bought/shipped safety equipment and supplies for the military serving for their protection and morale. Did you think of doing that with all the money you saved NOT buying ribbons?

I support the troops as they serve - Apolitically. After all, they serve on orders of the leaders WE USA citizens elected. I did not personally vote for Bush, but I will not penalize the military troops for my voting loss.

I am discouraged to see some of you have "Thumbs Down" a soldier. That sentiment has NOTHING to do with Ribbons. What do you do on Veterans and Memorial Day?

Your question had a point, but it got lost in the disrespect you baited.

It sertainly is not the families of the troops :) I think it is interesting that the people with those accuse people like me (who do support the troops but do not support the war) of not supporting the troops when all we want is for them to come home safe. We now have over 3316 dead american kids-where is the outrage?

I've bought one of every kind. The money I spent for those ribbons do exactly what it says. So far every place I've bought one took the money I spent and put it towards the troops one way or another. There are alot of other dealers out there only to line their pockets. I don't buy from them.

I was never interviewed about those ribbons but that is besides the point. As a soldier, it makes me feel better to know that people care about us. For those that claim that they support us but not the war, hogwash. When you are deployed, there is nothing more demoralizing than seeing people burning our flag or a soldier figure and then to hear that these people support us?? That is a cruel joke. To those people,we do not need your support, stick to your anti war protest but do not claim that you support us. We enlisted; we reenlisted and we know why, please do not insult us by claiming to speak for us, we can do that ourselves. Just like there are few nut cases in our ranks(Awol people), there are many nut cases out there, but those cases do not represent the vast majority of us. Thanks for those that support the troops, we know that those yellow ribbons are nothing but a magnet but the message is bigger than the car that is stuck on.

It's a warning label. Many of the people with those magnets are right-wingers who will get aggressive if annoyed. If you're smart, you won't cut them off in traffic.
