I was changing my brake pads and noticed that one of my cv boots were torn, separated, whatever. It is on the drivers side maybe about a foot or so away from the tire. How long should I be able to drive with this condition?? And also how hard is this to repair, I am able to do simple things like changing brakes and this of that nature. Thanks

Do not drive it at all without replacing it. The CV boot will not in itself cause a failure but every mile driven allows dirt into the bearings in the CV joint which will fail. If you go to Pep Boys of another auto supply store and buy a "TWO PIECE CV JOINT REPLACEMENT BOOT" its much easier to install than the one piece which would require the CV joint to be removed. The boot is put into place then glued together. Its a fast simple fix and very inexpensive. This job should be a snap for you to do.

You could drive around like that until the CV joint is destroyed which costs about $180 to fix, or buy a repair CV boot for about $25, whichever you prefer. Replacing the torn boot with a 2 piece replacement with clamps is even more simple than replacing brakes.

it will las a little while, but eventually it will go out with you.you can pull the axle and put a new boot on,with grease,or you can buy a split boot, where you can replace, without removing the axle, but i dont like the split kind, they seem to come loose, sometimes.
