North = Septentrio
South = Meridies
East = Oriens
West = Occidens.

These are the names for the cardinal directions.

Young Sebi was on the right track, but he was giving the adjective forms - northern, southern, etc .

In the other answer, Cancer does mean South, but not as a compass point - it's like saying Alabama is in the South. Aquilo actually is the North Wind, and sometimes by extension is used for Northerly or toward North. Occasus comes from Solis Occasus, which is sunset (literally, fallen sun), and this is also sometimes used for Westerly or toward West - but neithe rwould normally be used for the compass point.
