I want to expand my exposure to world music--suggestions?

I have tried Indian Sitar music and Caribbean Steel Drums today..I want music that really transports you to a different place/time and I have a fondness for relaxing music lately but any suggestions would be helpful. I know there is good stuff out there!

Well, besides good jazz, both modern and contemporary, you can try Turkish, Arabic, Japanese drums and strings, and Irish/Celtic. They're all good relaxing music from other cultures.

They feature numerous artists who are classified under the category world music. Incidentally, Peter is the founder of WOMAD. You should listen to his music too - it is truly awesome. He is my biggest influence, musically, and he draws his inspiration from artists world wide.
