Velocity Of Unladen Swallow

African or european?

This question is taken from a movie "Monty Python and the Holy Grail".

Particularly, it is taken from the part in the movie where the knights have encountered a bridge they must cross and a wizened old bridge keeper who informs them that they must answer his three questions before they cross. Sir Lancelot gets 3 easy questions and crosses directly. Two further knights are lost when they say "I don't know" and are hurled by an unseen force into the chasm.

The old man then asks Arthur about the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow, unwittingly referring back to the opening scene in the film. Arthur responds by asking what type of swallow, which tricks the old man into saying "I don't know", and the old man himself is hurled into the chasm, opening the way for the knights to cross the rickety bridge.

Orinoco, that's a good answer. But, if you ask "African or European?" then you're gone......... :)

Slasher4, What you say might be right if the question was "What is the ground speed on an unladen swallow?"

Great film. I watched it again recently for the first time in 32 years and was amazed at how easily the script returned to me. I wish my memory was so good with things that I have to study!

WHAT is your favorite color?

"Red! No........ Blue" :)
