It sounds like you are very tired. The unknowing of what is labor is very normal. The baby has probably dropped into position for birth. This is one than likely causing your back pain and pressure. You might even feel pain going down into your legs. Being 2cm dilated is normal before going into actual labor. I think that you should ask these questions to you OB doctor. At this point into your pregnancy, you should be having more closer exams by the doctor. Just ask the doctor. That is their job. They have probably heard these questions over and over, but it would ease your confusion. Try to rest and relax as much as possible even if you donot sleep. DONOT rest or sleep on your back. This puts too much pressure on the aorta and will slow the blood delivered to your baby. Try resting on your left side. With your head elevated to whatever you are used to. Also try placing a pillow under you abdomen. This will help to relieve some of the pressure. This may sound strange but, if you have someone that would do this try having them to gently rub your swollen abdomen with soothing powder such as baby powder. Remember the key word is gently. Also, a foot massage would probly help you to relax. If you have quiet gentle music that would be good also. The main thing is to try to relax and try to rest.

If you are not having contractions then I would say you are not in labour but you may be dilating more. I was 3 cm at 36 weeks with my third and she ended up being a day over due. And you would think that I knew when labour was but I had no clue with her. I had contractions every 45 mins and finally went to the hospital to see what was going on - we sat there for almost an hour without a contraction and they told me that they were going to check me and then probably send me home. They checked and I was 8 cm and then the real labour started and Carling was born 1 hour later. So, don't feel bad if you are not sure if you are in labour or not, every pregnancy is different and so is every labour. When the pain is so bad that you can't talk through it - then go to the hospital!!!!
Good Luck.....

no your not IN labor but you might be fixing to go into labor.

watch yourself carefully. time the pains your having, if they are regular and 5 minutes apart go on to the hospital for safety reasons.

If you start leaking fluid even just a little here or there your water is breaking, go to the hospital.

It is normal to be uncomfortable during the last few weeks or days before labor begins.

Good luck and yes try laying on your side.or sitting in a recliner to sleep.

I actually went to the ER twicw with the same problems but since I was having NO contractions they sent me home. But.... I ended up going into labor 3 days later. I know you are so anxious but you will know when you are in labor it took me 2 times to know for sure. With my second child I actually started contracting every 5 minutes like my dr. said I would. You will know when you are in labor when you start contracting and it becomes VERY uncomfortable. Good Luck to you!!

I must say the second and third answers left me flabbergasted. Who would think of going to a Doctor and know this a sign of Labor @ 38 weeks. Dang, I just not know what to say, other than good luck! Home birth can be a trying time if you not have a very good "Midwife" by now.

If you go into labor before the induction date, then yes, you will have your baby before Feb 2. If the hospital is full on Feb 2 then your obgyn will need to reschedule it. Surely the obgyn organizes this scheduling directly with the hospital? Give your obgyn a call to talk through - what you should do if you go into labor before Feb 2 - the scheduled date and the availability at the hospital. Good luck! Either way, not long to go. Enjoy your last baby free weeks.

Probably not yet, but soon. I was feeling much the same way you are for about a week before I gave birth. I know it is hard, but just try to make yourself as comfortable as possible and take this time to savour the feeling of having your baby inside you. I know it is hard to believe now, but in a while, you will miss it that feeling. Good Luck!!

You're probably in the start of labor. The best advice I can give you is to find a position that makes you feel good. Laying on your back CAN cause labor to last long, so try your left side.

Not necessarily. Some babies drop well before labour begins. You'll know when you're in labour. Until then, try and stay as comfortable as possible. Good luck! :)
