You may have issues with air in the system. Turn the vehicle off. When the car is cool, remove the rad cap, and fire the car up again. While the car is running, watch the level of antifreeze in the opening for the rad cap for bubbles. Once the bubbles have stopped, top it up. If this doesn't work, you may be into serious engine problems. How hot did you get the vehicle when your water pump failed? Your coolant problems may be far from over.

Some newer cars coolant system need to be "burped" to get out any air pockets..had the same problem on my brother's 96 Z28 when we changed the pump.
There should be a bleed screw on top of the t-stat flange and another in one of the coolant lines...warm up the motor and crack these two open a little at a time until no more air comes out, just coolant, keep a rag on the hoses at the fittings to catch any coolant. You may have to repeat this procedure a few times to get all the air out
Also, make sure it's really overheating...could be a bad temp sensor. Take off the radiator cap on a cold engine, put a kitchen type thermometer in the radiator opening, start up the car and watch how high the temp goes on the thermometer.....if it matches the gauge inside the car, you do have overheating issue. If it stays around 200 and the gauge reads higher, the temp sensor is probably bad....there might be two sensors, one for the computer and one for the gauge...not sure.
Other isuues are plugged radiator, missing air dam below the bumper, t-stat bad or installed wrong, improper coolant mix--should be 50/50 mix of water and coolant....you can buy a tester at parts stores to check coolant protection level. Fans not coming on when warmed up and overheating?
Coolant hoses collapsed...check the big rad hoses.

make sure the fan works,and after you drive it,shut it down and feel the radiator,next to the engine,to see if theres any cold spots.if there is then the radiator is clogged up in places.flush out the entire cooling system.also it could be the thermostat.
