does it bother you to have socialists call themselves liberals?

are you still really a liberal, or have you adopted marxism and radical environmentalism as your religion?

are you angry that the democrat party has been stolen from you by the socialists?

Just trying to find out why perfectly good people with forward looking ideas can get sucked up into a failed system called socialism and communism?

Map- I am being as honest as possible. I despise socialism, and I truly believe 99% of the people who post here saying they are liberals are hard core marxists, and dishonest, I am asking for a little honesty, but it seems to not be on the socialist agenda.

To give you an answer that differs from the rest, yes it bothers me a great deal.
Socialists seem to take advantage of the good natured spirit of liberals to sell them on the idea that socialism will bring about the change in society that they seek. Nothing, in my opinion, can be farther from the truth.
Socialism will only bring an end to classic American liberalism, which is based on individual freedoms and not the wants of the majority.

The first thing is that their should be no assumptions about what failed policies or philosophies socialists support because socialists are not all the same and socialism is widely misunderstood. Their are many, including myself, who would argue that Stalin was a dictator that was able to takeover a movement that became weak to resist because of material factors in Russia. However I still think that Marx is a very important writer who effectively explains class conflict.

That aside, the differences between real socialists and liberals is that socialist actually know where the dems got their liberal reputation. A large mass movement that had many socialists in it actually threaten the government with large general strikes and sometimes insurrections. To maintain control of the situation on behalf of corporations and capitalists the government passed reforms, social security, welfare, medicare, abortion, etc. That party only did it because of the mass pressure from below. Socialists understand this and don't vote for the dems they don't really represent the needs of the people. They only what to keep the ruling class in power just the same as Republicans. Liberals make the mistake that the party itself is the source or the cause of the reform policies and they support the Dems today even when they keep funding the war, don't cut tax breaks, don't legally protect abortions, homosexuals, or unions. Dems just like the Republicans in one major largescale way. They are a party that is backed by corporations. They act in the interest of these corporations when they are in power. SOCIALISTS see that, LIBERALS do not.
I know, I used to be a liberal. Now I am a socialist.

Couldn't agree more. I think you are just asking people to be honest. How can people be "Liberal" and favor larger government, socialist policies and government intervention? If that is your priorities, then fine let it be known. But don't compare yourself to classical liberals like Jefferson and the other founding fathers, who opposed big government, and wanted less government intervention in both personal and business affairs. With a two party system, terms polarize positions. Most people seem to be for big government, whether the Democrats or the Republicans. So people think it is either/or, but there should be more choices. How about an anti-statist choice? But currently, that isn't typically possible.

Many people who call themselves liberals are for issues that are akin to socialism and sometimes even communism.

When you get quotes from people like Hillary saying we are going to take things from you for the betterment of society... thats easily socialism and actually sounds like a marxist quote as well.

I would hope that liberals that do have a shred of common sense ( and there are some ) distance themselves from that type of thinking and those types of people.

it REALLY bothers me that people come on here spouting the same propaganda over and over again, that Rush and Company have said... that CLEARLY know nothing about politics or the real world...

painting all liberals as Stalin... with no evidence...

that's what bothers me...

America is about half socialist now, with all of the programs it has... EVER NOTICE THAT AMERICA BECAME A SUPER POWER AFTER FDR'S NEW DEAL?

COINCIDENCE?

the greatest success after a step closer toward socialism... and almost all of the most successful countries in the world are heavily socialist? ever looked at who has socialized healthcare? it's basically a "who's who" of where you would want to live after America...

ah... you don't care about the facts... Rush doesn't tell you all that does he...

I'm not a communist... but I have eyes and understand what socialism is... and where it's working in the world...

if captialism is so great... why is there no pure capitalistic nation out there? we're the closest sucessful one and we're not very close...

I actually think a combination of the two is the best way...

Your mother country has 3 major Political parties: Labour (Socialist) Liberal (Progressive) Conservative (Upper/middle Class). Liberal has nothing to do w. Socialism, this idea is an American mutation that has arisen out of America banning left wing politics in the 50's. Liberals thought making people move off the land and work as factory labourers was 'progressive' and had few problems w. slave labour and child labour until a party of the Working class (Labour) emerged in the late 1800's. Communism fails due to always becoming a one party state where the government class on the left simply replaces the rich and requisitions privilege. Ironically it was the far left wing emergency reforms of FDR that saved right wing capitalism after it caused the great depression that lead to WW2. Those reforms keep your otherwise moribund system going to this day even if very unfairly. A Socialist party is required to keep the far right in check over time, Liberals occupy the centre ground.

I feel sorry for you because it sounds like you have been brainwashed into believing that this invisible domestic enemy "liberals" are commies.

First of all, you are confusing some social programs with 'communism' and going off the deep end with it,
but that's OK> it's not your fault, that is what you have been programmed to think by your fat talking heads.

part socialism actually works: it does in Canada and it does in Europe.

Capitalism does not work in every country,
and if you are not careful,
it becomes Fascism -- the anti liberal, right wing spectrum of totalitarianism.

This will go on right under your nose -- if it hasn't already--
if people like yourself keep opposing anything "liberal" in favor of large, no allegiance corporations and militarization.
Such as Hitler or Mussolini.

I am a liberal. I'm not a Socialist or a Communist. I am Deist, I don't worship Karl Marx or the environment. It's obvious that you find it easier to call others that disagree with you names or make totally unsubstantiated claims about their beliefs than it is to debate the issues.

LIBERALS
Liberals share a belief in individual rights, free enterprise, representative democracy, and the rule of law. In this sense, almost all Americans accept liberal ideas. So much so that it is easy to forget how revolutionary these ideas were when the American Constitution was written. Thomas Jefferson said, “Peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with more.” All of our founding fathers considered liberalism a foundation of “the great experiment”. America since Reagan, liberalism has been colored to appear weak and elitest and our military force is used to intervene in other nations affairs.
Think liberal, think BIG.
