To those of you that said should we ban cars, because they can kill as well, the answer is no. They have primary functions such as getting you from A to B, where as guns have one purpose and that is to kill!

Being British, I don't see the point in having a gun. I understand that you think it is your right to bear arms, based on a constitution written hundred years ago, when guns, pistols, etc, were more prevolent. But do you think that it is really necessary today?

We need like a 10yr plan to get rid of guns, besides law enforcement an trained authorities, there is no need for them.
I see no reason to keep guns in circulation.
Too many terrible tragic events in history to deny it, but its my opinion.

As they say "Guns don't kill people-people kill people." It wasn't the availability of a weapon it was the rage at being bullied. If victims of bullies felt they had some other recourse like believability perhaps they would not need to go to such measures. This case will probably unwind to reveal the same persecution theories that the others have. Bully laws exist but are not enforced, victims are rarely believed and it isn't until a tragedy occurs that they are taken seriously. It isn't the weapon it is the lack of humanity. How many times does a person have to say they are going to kill someone or themselves before someone listens?

NO! Just because you have a few crazy people in this country that is no reason to ban guns. If you banned guns the only people that would have them would be the bad people because they would go to the under ground to get them illegally. I want to keep my guns for protection against all the bad people in the world. We have 9 different shot guns and rifles in our home that we keep locked up in a gun safe. My husband and son are hunters. Why ban the good people from having guns?
There have been 2 school shootings(the Amish school and one in Colorado) that I know of that have been done by adults 35-50 years of age so it's not just the kids or young adults doing this.

No, it will never be time to ban guns in America.
To everyone arguing that guns should not be banned because then only bad people will get them - this is as irrational as arguing that drugs should be legalized because it would destroy the black market for drugs, or arguing that abortions should not be made illegal because then women would get them in unsanitary conditions. You don't argue for legalization or criminalization by saying that criminalization will be bypassed in worse conditions. You make laws on the assumption that they will be obeyed.
The reason you should never ban guns in America is the rationale of the 2nd amendment - a right to bear arms is an essential last check against tyranny. Laws which require American to register their firearms or obtain licenses before purchasing firearms or outright forbid people to own guns make it impossible for citizens to resist a tyrannical state: either nobody has the ability to fight back, or the government knows who has the ability and they incapacitate them first.
The first obligation of a free society will always be to insure that it remains free. That is why it will never be time to ban guns in America.

Face it, banning guns in a society that was raised on playing cowboys and Indians is most likely going to never happen. Guns in this country are pretty much ingrained into the social fabric. Personally, I think the idea of banning guns is totally backwards. Instead of banning guns, we should be encouraging ownership across the board. If everyone had a weapon, (and knew how to use it) then criminals would think twice about mugging poor ole granny as she's walking home from BINGO. Because granny just might shoot back instead of handing over her purse.

Sounds good in theory, but there are far too many guns already under mattresses, in closets, attics, sheds, and gun cabinets for it to be enforced. The violence is not caused by guns, they are merely the tool of choice. The Virginia shootings could just as easily been a car driven through a campus......... Do we ban cars? Knives? Sticks? Stones?

Banning guns (all 230 million of them) in the United States is essentially an impossible task. Deterrence is the key . We would be better served by more vigorous enforcement of current laws and also enact a Federal law that would make the punishment for the use of a firearm in the commission of a crime an automatic life sentence.

I agree we could constantly not ban weapons. The clumsy attempt of imposing regulations like that basically creates a black marketplace and is burden on society. we can't turn inner maximum voters into criminals basically for possessing the stupid hunk of steel. although, i think of it is easy sense to heavily alter and shrink the upward push of weapons production and distribution. which incorporate having an digital gun registry. additionally i think of those regulations could be stricter in denser populations - greater durable to get. An AR-15 for a activities fanatic in Golden Colorado is diverse than somebody residing in a Brooklyn condominium. So we restrict the sale of such weapons in those aspects. And definite a historic past verify + waiting era + registry for each thing above low high quality rifles. -Texas Liberal

Time to ban the media that gives the bums the attention they want thus encouraging other bums.
Also, gun flow is impossible to stop. We can't stop illegals how can we stop guns? They're smaller and thus more easily smuggled. All that will happen is criminals will keep their guns and good guys will have none. So if guns are banned do you think that the criminals will hand over their illegal guns? I don't think so.

Nope, because the bad guy will always have a way to get them. That would mean only the good people would not have them. That would leave the good people totally at the mercy of the bad guy.
The gun didn't kill those poor people, the guy behind it did. Rest assured, he would have got the gun, one way or another.

do you think that banning guns will solve anything? check this out; a criminal is going to be a criminal so do you think that criminals will turn there guns in? get real. the law abiding citizens will turn there guns in though and guess what the criminals still have theirs so what do you think will happen? so go ahead and ban guns and watch home invasions and robberies rise and all because the criminals still have there guns but honest Joe doesn't and now he can't defend his family or property.
