For my advanced english class, I have a final project on a certain theme and five works of literature that go with it.

I chose "the many faces of love" and...
- The Gift of the Magi (short story) : Love of a person
- America the Beautiful (song) : Love of a country
- Life for Today (song) : Love of life
- Firewall (movie) : Love for a family
- Harry Potter 5 (novel) : Love for friends

I need to now create a fun project that incorporates these five works and theme. I thought of writing a story or poems, but I'd rather have something more crafty and creative.

Any ideas? I'd really appreciate it!

this idea is a little different...

Use some cardboard and actually make box letters.
Make the letters - L O V E ! - that is five box letters, well four and an exclamation point - make each one at least 12 inches high, 24 inches would be better. Make them deep enough so each letter stands up on its own.

paint each letter a different color and then paste a printed synopsis of the respective stories/movie you have picked.

Are you into scrapbook or that sort of thing? I read (more like skimmed) through some of the answers you've received. I like the gift idea where you can open it up and find things for each kind of love. But personally, I would go for a big, square book. Kind of like a scrapbook because it's something you can keep and interesting to look through. You can include different patterns, decorated papers, shapes, words, and etc. It's something that can touch everyone's heart but always go with what your heart desires. By the way, I really like your choices for the different kind of love (especially The Gift of the Magi). Good luck!

Well, I'm not helping here, but song titles and famous sayings popped into my head after reading your question.
All you need is love, what is love, love is a many splendid thing, love makes the world go round, i want to know what love is, love a little bit, etc.

How about 'What is Love" and then below that the 5 boxes as mentioned in someone else's post, with each of the themes you have listed, but put them to words or music? Like have a audio box for each of the themes so when the teacher/audience goes to each box, they hear you or others telling what each theme means to them or their interpretation of it? Listen to the first box and move on to the next. That would be interesting I think.

Charades would be a wonderful project.
It would be simple to pick 5 classmates,or for you, to interpret and act out without words the plots to each of these excellent works. After all, love IS an action, not a feeling. Between each you will have time to elaborate.
This will be appreciated by both, your teacher and peers, because it can be perceived as an unscheduled break in monotony.
You are off to a great start. Keep it simple. This way you will know where you are going and others can follow.

hey, i know this! back in sch when i learnt creative writing, we were taught to choose a favourite fairy tale, modify the details, and make a different story. eg: snow white did not eat the apple and die (you can elaborate and say the evil step witch died in the end). or u can write a fictitious story based on a beautiful city of a star-crossed lovers in the vatican city.

but i think the best is to be able to do a little mtv or a short cartoon strip. try surfing around the web for more ideas. i hope u do well! =)

I am not sure how comfortable you would feel with it, but how focusing on the presentation of your work. If you write a speech and present it to the group - dramatically. You can use a projector to show a slideshow of appropriate photos behind you (the school library would probably let you borrow a computer projection machine and you can make a powerpoint - or a TV projector and you can burn a DVD slideshow).

You could make a boardgame out of it all, and the pieces would be main characters from each story, and they travel along the path by rolling dice, and then come to their square and have to answer a question about what they would do in a certain situation, or how they interpreted a feeling, or event. Anyway, it could be really fun and interactive...you take it from here!

so, i think the movie keeps throwing me off. if you choose maybe a different movie (like 'it's a wonderful life') might be easier.
For a physical project - how about gifts stacked atop each other, one after the other filled with a depiction of each thing (a lock of hair, a purple heart, etc -- what you 'see' as love from each of those).
Or something that actually has faces (a drawing or collage); lock of hair, twined around a purple heart, with angel wings (it's a wonderful life), etc.

With all of these topics in mind it sounds as if u should probably put it in a poem because poems you can actually express your sellf and feel the poem through your art. You just have to define thigns that put each peom out there and make it attract peoples attention. You have to act as if you are saling yourself and say to yourself ok I have to do something that will attract a crowd and not just myself.
so reall yjust put some thought into it. and dont damage your brain jusrt be free with the poem and let your mind go into your imagination.
For example:
I am in computer graphics and we had to make posters advertising for a zoo and pick wht animal we wanted to attract the people to come adn see. So I did mine on Dolpins which are my favorite and in order for me to attract the kids for events I have to attract teh adults, teachers, parents, because they will use it as a fieldtrip for the kids you know. So i had about 3 photos of bopttlenose dolphins and I talked about eachone in a 3 letter balloon and it was like " swim with teh dolphins", "pet the dolphins"..
So you just have to use your imagination.
have fun I hope i made it easier for u.

if you all are going to post your projects in the classroom (kinda like an art gallery), and walk around looking at others, i'd suggest making some really decorative poster boards, and putting a voice animated machine thing on each of them, briefly explaining it all. if it's a presentation, then obviously you wouldn't need them! lol if you just hand it in, i'd say that's still something that a teacher would find unique and entertaining!
