If you have large ants they may be carpenter ants. If you can find the nest you can spray it. If not call an exterminator.
But carpenter ants are usually attracted to high moisture conditions which will need to be corrected if you want to eliminate the problem. You may have some wet wood behind a wall (maybe from a leaking window sill which may require some exterior caulking. or a rain gutter issue) Also cut back any vegetation outside that may be touching your house such as tree limbs which provide access. This will also provide air circulation around the house.

If they're carpenter ants, poison won't work. Here's a link to info about carpenter ants. Poison will kill foraging ants, but not the nest, since 90% of the ants never leave the nest. Your best bet is to consult a professional exterminator.

There is a product called Terro. Works great and will kill the nest when they go back. Then get some of the ant things that you put on the floor etc and put a few of them around. Next get a compressed air spayer and coat the base of your house in a good insecticide to keep them away. Then there are the things that you put in your lawn that do the trick on some of them.

Terro is the best for inside your home but keep out of reach of small children & pets. Outside, if they are stripping your trees at night, at dusk, when they are first seen, spray the trail & down the hole to the nest w/ a mixture of any inexpensive dish soap & water. This will kill on contact but is only temporary. I am still trying to find a solution to get rid of the tree strippers for good! My neighbor & I have been fighting them for years.

ants don't like ajax or comet. Sprinkle some on outsid window ledges and doorways to the outside of your house. Or instead of cleansers you can use boric acid (powder). You might also try locating the nest and encircling it with any of the powders I mentioned.

If you got a nest the best thing to do is locate it and fog bomb it. Its the best way to get the queen. The ant bait traps don't really work. If they roaming you could raid them.
