Similarly, the US is staring down the barrel of a gun called 'Social Security,' with the hammer set to fall when the last boomer retires.

There are many other examples. Of course, you could just put it down to the Democrats, as the liberal party, the party of change and progress making many changes, and the Republicans, as the conservative party resisting change. Of course the party that actually tries new things will be to 'blame' when something goes wrong.
