The problem is we live in a country where there is a cult of violence. We demand to own guns, including very dangerous automatic guns. We "love" to watch violent movies like "Death Wish" series, Steven Seagal's killings of 'bad guys" or "The Matrix". Or playing video electronic games where mayhem and killing is part of the "entertainment". And we "glorified" the war in Iraq. USA is a sick country that "loves" violence. And it can't handle the truth. What do you think? And careful the "insults". I'll report you.

Excuse me, but you just insulted our country.

I aggree with your opinion 95 %. But you have lost my sympathy when you arrogantly ask:

What do you think? And careful the "insults". I'll report you.

You will never know what I think, because apparently Americans "can't handle the truth".

Report me? Can't. I have not insulted you, nor do I intend. Examine your own tone, and evaluate the nature of the responses that you will evoke.

Have a nice day.

If you have yet to watch it I think you would enjoy watching "Bowling for Columbine". The theme of the movie is an effort to answer these same questions. Unfortunately the question cannot be answered and the only conclusion drawn is the frustration that US culture is a very strange and, yes, Sick phenomenon. Sick is probably the best way to put it. Violent movies and video games are quite popular in other cultures too, less the academic shooting sprees. Guns are owned a plenty in other countries and the body count isn't even close. Sick indeed. The absence of guns would have made only a small difference, that being the killer used crude weapons like machetes, crow bars, or homemade explosives.

I suppose the romanticized attention and race for the ratings put sick ideas in other troubled people's heads. Why on earth would somebody consider himself a martyr like other irrational killers in recent years? Perhaps we are force fed so much real violence and bad news that we expect nothing less leaving us attached to disorder and addicted to viewing horrific tragedy to other fellow Americans (from the comfort of our own home). The fake violence isn't the problem. The real violence is what keeps perpetuating and feeding the monster. We all know the story. Now we all need to ask ourselves, why am I still interested in hearing about it?

Im still not a believer that violent movies and video games have an effect on people...I think its just a case with being able to seperate fantasy from reality.

I fully agree with you, Bruno.

Look at the popularity of movies like Saw or Hostile

Then we love to bully anyone who is different. We are so selfish. It's shameful.

I agree.
The first thing we can do is refuse to be entertained by violence. Don't see the movies and don't play the games. It's not fun anymore.
