Funny how Yahoo didn't put it into militia this time. Thought Ans 15 + 4 (original Q) said it all - perhaps it's time the NRA dupes realised that 220 years on times have changed, or maybe guns should be used - not to "kill 2 times as many would-be killers as do police" (Ans 15) but, as originally suggested by the forefathers, to overthrow the government.
Spare us from gun-toting pedants (Ans 9) who shoots to hunt as well as defend (mind boggles!! racoons? rats? cockroaches? gnats? people of "wrong" colour/persuasion/habits?) - do you EAT the hunted or just compliment yourself on sneaking up on a placid deer perhaps with a multi-round assault weapon? I'm soooo UNimpressed.

Wow 1 and 2 you are fast!! I was searching for a way to add that this is more of a comment since I missed the chance on original Q to vote and that I am not looking for answers - though I'm sure there will be some and I even feel a thumbsdown on my answers coming on!
Have to disagree with Ans 1 while I'm here - surely this is a time if any - ask Reagan (not being snide honest) - he closed the needed institutions for mentally-ill who by virtue of their illness need supervision in at least medication control.

even with the tragedy at Virginia Tech, which i've got not got faith could have been preventable even with gun administration, mutually as George W. Bush is working the rustic i'm vehemently unfavorable to any rules that preclude me from possessing a gun on any day i choose to purchase one. the final factor i choose is a central authority run via him to have extra handy get admission to to weapons than the yank human beings.

ban prozack and all (psychotropic drugs) keep the nutters in the asylums and dont let political correctness let a troubled fella go about his busness when he was flagged by many sources as being disturbed , gun control is not the answer but will be used i this problem , reaction , solution .
