I don't understand why you people buy these big expensive SUVs. Please don't tell me because of safety. There are lots of cars that are just as safe. Is it to keep up with your neigbors?

I bought mine because I like jeeps and I like the grand cherokee no I don't need the room and no I didn't buy it for safety and no I couldn't care less that I average 16 mpg I bought it because I like it and If I want to pay more for gas then thats my decision. there's a reason there's such a vast amount of cars out there b/c people have needs but also personality I don't want some bland car if I liked the Toyota prius then I would buy it but I don't haha.

If there wasn't a 'need' or a 'market for these vehicles, they wouldn't sell.
You are making a very narrow minded assumption of other peoples needs.
Not that anybody should have to justify their reasons to you but let me give you a description of a few of my customers that buy big SUV's:

A funeral home owner who bought an Expedition EL so that he can move caskets as (well as his family of 5)

A real estate developer who often needs to bring clients to undeveloped land sites.

A family with 5 teenagers who likes to go camping & tows a camper on weekends.

A woman who takes her (large) dogs to dog shows all over the country.

A Real Estate agent (with 5 kids)

A personal trainer at a health club who also has 3 very small children & often needs to cart strollers along with other equipment.

A family who tows a 'cigarette' boat .

So there's a list of my last 7 Expedition sales.

Believe me ...not a one of them were trying to impress their neighbors, & for their needs they chose the vehicle that best suited them.

None of them worried about what YOU were driving, so why do you care what (or why) they buy/drive what they do?

ya what ethol said------and why in the hell would I want to keep up with the nieghbors? They have jap scrap and ive towed them in plenty of times with my old chevy p/u and my ranger. And you talk about safe,we like to be up off the ground so we can see them little $hit shakers zoomin around without looking so instead of suvs bein safer i would agree and you should look at the people driving $hit shakers, the car is only as safe as the drivers that drive them.

I own 2, an Explorer and a Durango.... I drive only SUV's because I like them, 4 wheel drive, power and they ride great! My neighbors wish they could keep up with me! LOL! SUV's arent really expensive..... it's all your preference what you like. :)

I bought mine for the space (I have kids and a dog) and just because I like it. I bought mine second hand, it's a 2002 and it doesn't suck up gas like people tend to think. Mine is a smaller one...a Ford Escape...and no, I couldn't care less about keeping up with the neighbors.
