I never thought about it before, but when I said it in front of three African American ladies, they looked at me funny. I'm mortified! Please tell me I imagined it.

We were talking about gardening, I said I had the black thumb of death, the opposite of a green thumb I guess.

nobody ever thought that it was racist we know what it means black like in death,not skin color--you diggin too deep

I don't get it; a 'black thumb' would indicate that you understood the earth and are able to create good soil for your plants.

You have to drop the idea that everything 'black' is bad and everything 'white' is good; don'tcha know white flour and sugar are bad for you?

No, they probably were not thinking what you think they were thinking.

Green thumb = good gardener
Black thumb = bad gardener

They most likely know that. If not inform them.
