A silhouette is really just the outline - think of shining a bright light on someones profile and outlining the shadow it casts on the wall. Now fill in the shadow with one color.

I assume you're doing a person...so look through some
fashion magazines, cut around the item you'de like to
silhouette, apply to your paper, trace and fill in. Do it
for all the items. Get a side view of a face and do the
same.

Yes
Stand in front of your mirror. Tape a piece of thin paper onto the mirror. Trace the outline that you see through the paper.
Standing closer to the mirror will produce a larger one.
