I wouldn't, but someone did that to us. He thought we were not home.
It was a summer night and we left the door open with just the screen door shut for some air. Apparently this guy fell asleep at the wheel and went off the road and rolled his car down a deep hill. He said (after my husband threatened his life) that he walked a mile knocking on every door and it was either locked or no one would answer and when he saw our door open and the phone right there by the door, he thought he could quick sneak in and use the phone to call his Grandma to come get him and no one would notice.
We were actually in the bedroom and I didn't wake up when he was knocking on the door, but when the door opened I woke up and told my husband. Poor kid almost died that night...twice!

All depends! If knew the people well enough, by all means walk in. If know one around would shut door and go away.

If didn't know the person whom is their door, I'm knocking at, I would simply close the door quietly and walk away.
Would also stand by the door, try to hear or see is any signs of help needed.

How would you know the door was unlocked unless you were already trying to walk in?

For my own sake, no. It depends on how well you know the person and who that person is associate with. I suggest walking in ONLY if the door is wide open so you can say you didn't want anyone else to get in.

If it's my sisters house...I wouldn't have knocked in the first place. If it was a cousins, I'd knock then go in before they answered anyway. If it was a friend, I'd knock then poke my head in the door and call out...then go in. If it was a stranger I wouldn't go in at all.

No, that's rude and an invasion of their privacy, but I would stay there until they came back since the house is unlocked.

Depends if its my house or how good of friends I am with the person. But, most likely I couldn't just walk into someones house. Its disrespectful..
