My baby girl's dad is from India, he is not dark skinned but has very black hair. I am caucasian and very white with strawberry blonde hair. When she was first born she had jet black hair. Now she is 3 weeks old and its got a reddish brown color to it. Will it lighten as she gets older or darken back to black again? I am getting conflicting answers from family. Most people say it will darken with age.

My oldest daughter was born with dark brown hair. By the time she was 6 months old she had dark blonde curls. When she hit 12 months she had white blonde curly hair below her shoulders. Her hair stayed that colour until she was 8 or so. Then slowly darkened year by year, until by the age of 20 she was back to having dark blonde curls.

My youngest daughter was born with dark brown hair, and has retained her dark brown hair for her whole life. She gets blonde and red highlights in the summer, but her hair is not changing as her sister's did.

I think that it is an individual thing. But wouldn't she look wonderful with strawberry blonde hair and darker skin? A real interesting combination.

Realize that up to 12 months your baby might lose all of its hair and there's nothing you can do about it. Hair grows in cycles that also include a resting period before new hair comes through. This cycle can get interrupted with hormonal changes. Namely, loss of hair. Once born, babies will often lose their hair because hormone levels drop significantly after birth. This is a natural cycle and there's nothing you can do to stop it since that's a part of the child's development. Just kick back and if your baby loses their hair, then just look forward to the baby's new hair do! Mothers will often go through a similar hair loss.

First of all CONGRATULATIONS on the safe arrival of your new baby. Out of personal experience I acn tell you that sometimes babies hair will lighten. But common sense dictates that it will follow family genetics (that apple lands under the tree) that being said baby was born with black hair adn father has black hair. you have red hair therefore my guess is that baby will always have dark reddish hair. LIghter or darker depending on various enviromental factors such as sun exposure or lack of. in general lppls hair will lighten during the summer months when more time is spent out of doors and darken during the winter months.
Even Natural blonds hair will darken with age even if extremely fair skinned. therefore the need for colour touch ups when older.

Hard to say. I have brown hair and my husband is a blonde -light brown and our babies were all born with black hair which fell out and became blonde. Then as they got older theirs turned lightish brown as well. If your babies dad has black hair...that colour is usually dominant, so it could revert to being black...but if it has turned a reddish brown...it may well stay that way. Does it REALLY matter?

My Daughter was born with Jet black hair too.

She is now nearly 5, and it is a medium brown colour.

I think you will find that it will lighten up as she gets older. You will also probably find that it will start to fall out shortly, especially where her head is in contact with the sheets in the cot. It could then grow back a different colour.

My son was born with dark brown hair and by 6 months it was light blonde. Now he is 7 and it is dirty blonde. Both his father and I have dark brown hair, I think he gets his blonde hair from my mother( she as blonde hair). So you never know with babys hair. Only time will tell.

My two girl's hair were both black at birth and one pretty much stayed dark brown but not black. The iother turned blonde then med brown now that she's 7. I think it just depends on the different kids. Just like eye color change too.

My daughter was born with a head full of jet black hair. Eventually it fell out and now her hair is a light brown colour.

There is not answer for this question. Babies are still in a developing stage. Their hair color and eyes can still change.

My husband and I have brown eyes and so does everyone in our family. My son was born with light grey eyes. When the lights shines down on his eyes, it looks blue. We know this is our son because he was with us from the moment he was born and he has features like us. It took him 5-6 months to change from light grey to brown.
