It's in the gas tank. You need to drop the gas tank from under the car. if your not mechanically inclined take it to a shop... If you are hope the tank is almost empty. 1 gallon of fuel weighs 8lbs... If you have a full tank do the math.
You'll need to un hook the battery! Don't forget that step!, Undo the clamps around the fuel filler hoses.
Then undo the tank clamp bolts with a jack under the tank! once that is done slowly lower the tank till you can see the fuel lines, and the plug that goes to the pump. the plug may have a plastic cotter pin which you'll have to remove to unplug it. The fuel lines maybe the kind you can put a line wrench on and remove them, Or the knid where you need a special fuelline/ac hose removal too. These tools can be purchased pretty cheap at Advanced auto parts. But you must also know how to use them. They fit over the fuel line and slide up into a collar where they release a spring lock. then the lines can be pulled apart. After the lines, hoses, and plugs are disconnected the tank can be lowered with the jack.
Once lowered and out from under the car you'll see where the fuel tubes come out of the fuel pump/fuel sending unit. There is a lock ring holding it to the tank. This ring needs to be hammered with a flathead screw driver,or punch in a Anticlockwise direction. Once the ring is out, and the pump can be removed, pull up slowly till you can't pull up anymore.look inside the hole and determine which direction to lean the unit so the gas tank float will be in the right position to remove the unit. Once it's out just reverse the proceedure to put it back in. You may want to look in the trunk 1st before doing all this and make sure the fuel pump safety switch didn't get knocked into the off position. If that's the case ignore all these instructions, flip the switch and see if your car will run before trying to replace the pump

It hasn't been on the engine since they had carbs. Yours is in the tank, and you replace it by removing the tank. A heck of a lot easier job with the car on a lift.

if it is not inside of the gas tank, and you have a V-8 engine, it may be found on the drivers side of the engine, down around the front of the engine.
