traps,,,they have them at the pound

Try those Hav-a-Hart live traps that Home Depot sells. They have a size appropriate for raccoons. If you trap one, slide the trap inside a supermarket bag so that the raccoon is in the dark and calm. Then drive about 3 miles away and kick the trap over so it releases the end plates and frees the raccoon.

The problem is that they are smart and nasty so you might not succeed.

If not you need to call a pest control company before they wreck your attic.

Call an animal removal service. Many times the have babies in the attic. They will move the babies to the outside and seal up the holes into the attic. The mother will goto the babies and take them somewhere else.

This is going to sound gross, but try using something with the smell of urine on it. Fox or human are two good choices. Dog, too.

Raccoons are nasty, but shy. They will not stay where they smell a potential predator.

An old sheet or tshirt you're going to toss out, placed on plastic will keep your attic floor pee free.

Go up armed with a broom, flashlight and something to make lots of noise to scare them out. Then when they run out, seal up the hole they got in. A decent sized barking dog will usually set them running.

Your biggest concern should be how did they get in? After getting them out using the above suggestions you need to look for the entrance and take care of that too.

I would recommend contacting a professional pest removal company. We have one in our area called Critter Control. Cornered racoons can become combative.

I have heard that burning sulfur candles in your attic does the trick.
