No, but it may affect her. Your hair may not take to dye the same as when you're not pregnant (you, of course, referring to your friend). It's not really a complication, but you always want to be careful with the fumes.

There are chemicals associated with dying your hair. But almost every other product you use has chemicals that get absorbed into the body. Such as: shampoo, soap, makeup, moisturiser, non organic food, perfume, deodorant etc. The main reason that hair dressers recommend that pregnant women don't dye their hair is because their hair is weakened while pregnant and may break. If your girlfriend does choose to dye her hair make sure you go to a professional and don;'t do a home job. Ask them for their professional advice.

Cutting is fine but dying thats another story,
Because the dye is absorbed through the scalp and into the body (it can be identified in urine) some medical experts are hesitant to give carte blanche to hair coloring during all three trimesters. Often, many physicians advise holding off coloring hair with permanent dyes during the first trimester when your baby is undergoing important neurological developments. Coloring can then be resumed in the second or third trimester.
If you color your hair at home, look for products with the fewest number of chemicals and always work in a well-ventilated room, wearing gloves while handling the mixture. If you have your hair done in a salon, request the first appointment in the morning on their least busy day - when you are least likely to suffer excessive chemical exposure.

usually hairdressers would advice pregnant women to wait till after the birth to dye their hair, or to do any sort of hair treatment, as the hair will not respond as well to the treatment as it would other wise. if she really wants to dye her hair, i would suggest she speak to a few hair dressers first, and go to the one that will help her dye hair, but exclude the roots, as the scalp is more sensitive during pregnancy, as well as prevent any possible side effects that we don't know of.

She can cut her hair but she should not dye it since they say the chemicals in the dye can affect the baby...so just tell her to wait 3 mos and then dye it.

No it's fine. But make sure it's a well ventilated area and to be sure wear a dust mask. And to the scalp part. that woman was WRONG. It only goes through two layers of skin. It's perfectly fine, it's just the strong smell of the chemicals.

No one knows for sure, the research is inconclusive. It is recommended that you not dye your hair during the first trimester, but after that it should be fine.
