What is the point of reading nutrition labels and what are the pros and cons of reading them. I am doing a report at school so i need your help. thanks! :)

Read nutrition labels so you are aware of what you are eating. By reading such labels, you can keep track of how many calories, saturated fat, vitamins, or minerals or how many proteins you are consuming.

Many people are concerned about limiting their diet to a given amount of calories or fat every day. Other people are concerned about minerals such as iron, calcium, or sodium. Thus, you can limit your intake. On the other hand, if you have a certain deficit (such as iron or calcium), you can take steps necessary to get the amount you need.

Consumers can also compare the nutritional value of different products and make wise choices in purchasing. A smart consumer can save money.

As noted, the pros about nutritional labels are that a consumer can improve his/her health and save money. The cons are that most people don't understand the labels or how to use them, so they are nearly meaningless. Most people find them too confusing.

Food labels provide nutrition facts and information about the foods that your family eats.

From the amount of calories, fiber, and total fat grams, to the food's ingredients, the food label is your key to the nutrition information in the foods you provide to your family.

It can help you to increase the healthy nutrients that you want your family to eat, like calcium and fiber, and limit nutrients that can be unhealthy, like fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium.

And reading food labels can you to compare foods that you are going to buy and choose foods that are more healthy than others.

I'll give you a personal example of why on the pro-side.
I have high cholesterol. I must watch the fat/cholesterol/saturated fat/trans fat intake of my diet.
The nutritional information is valuable for those with special dietary needs.


The con-side you almost have to be a dietitian to understand what you are reading. You also have to how to calculate the information, like a mathematician.

It's not just reading it, it's understanding it..........quite frankly one you reach a certain age in life it's not always easy to remember or understand.

People need to read labels because there are a range of medical problems that people can get from eating certain foods.Allergic reactions can be fatal if you react to certain foods.Then there isdiabetes eating healthily after a heart attack Crohns Disease and the list is endless.Labelling needs to made easier.

I read them

a) for information - calories, carbs, sugars etc.

b) the point of reading them is because i have certain medical conditions that make it necesary for me to be infomed about the foods I eat

each and every now and then. i do no longer possibly purchase lots of junk so i do no longer might desire to look at nutrients labels, and once I do purchase junk, i do no longer provide a damn what's in it, so i do no longer worry finding.

they tell you waht is in the thing you are about to eat. including amount of calories, amount of servings, amount of fat, etc. which you really need to pay attention to if you want to stay healthy, but the only bad thing is if you are doing it in front of someone they might think that like you have low self esteem or that you think you are fat and stuff like that
