There are several possible reasons:
1) The asker might have thought that your answer was wrong.
2) Some one else may have explained it better.
3) Some people have multiple accounts, ask questions with 1, answer with another & pick themselves for best answer. If you see some one with an abnormally high % of best answers, chances are they are doing this.
You win some, you lose some. Don't worry about the 1's you lose, it's not worth it.

It isn't a race to be the first to answer a question.
The usual reason someone asks the question is not because they are lazy (some may be) but because they either don't understand it, or try to get the answer but fail.
What they most need is an explanation of both the 'how' and the 'why' of the answer as well as the answer.
I get a pretty good best answer rate even though I'm rarely first because I work out the answer then fill in lots of text explaining what each line did and why that approach was chosen. Some added explanatory text goes a long way to adding meanging to the mathematical notation.
Best != fastest. Best = the best explained.
As others have pointed out, good diction helps.. Here' is your question cleaned up a bit. with spelling, capitalization, punctuation, sentence structure and paragraph separation. Try comparing the two.
[
I'll give you a simple example. Someone asks a question. 2 seconds later I click on the question and answer it. I turn out to be the first to answer it. I only answer if i really know the answer.
Shortly thereafter, someone answers with the same answer that I provided but their answer gets voted to be the best and mine does not.
I think that is unfair. If you are going to do that then you might as well not ask the question because that is not fair and its showing favoritism.
If an answerer gets it right, just give them best answer. You got what you wanted. I mean personally i have never received best answer because of this incident happening every time I answer.
I think if this continues I will be done with yahoo! answers. Does anyone feel the way that I do? Trust me I do give people best answer. If anyone can explain to me first and make me feel your answer then I will mark you best answer. I'm not showing any favoritism. I'm just showing favoritism to the answer that I think is right.
I'm glad to have got that off my chest.

It is more annoying to me when there are a number of good answers, and the asker doesn't take the trouble to choose a Best Answer at all.
If you look at the last question I asked, how long would you spend choosing the Best Answer? There were seven candidates in my list of possible choices, but because I didn't know the answers myself, I had to use a bit of intuition, and make a random choice from the seven which I considered best. Six candidates who should really have been awarded the same gesture sadly lost out. At least I didn't leave the decision to the Community.

Lauren,
I looked back thru the last several answers you gave. You usually just provide an answer with no explanation for how you got it. In most cases people already have the answer in the back of the math book. So just giving the answer doesn't really help them. They want a clear explanation for how to solve the problem along with a detailed workup. That way they can do it themselves next time.
The person asking the question doesn't really care who answers first, they want the answer that helps them the most.
One last thing. Ask yourself, when you pick best answer for this question, are you going to pick the first answer or the answer that helps you the most?

The reason people on here ask questions is because they don't know the answer, so how are they a fair judge of who gives the best answer? Not only that, but people will read the first few responses and then elaborate on them, and when choosing the best answer I don't think anyone cares about time. I would suggest to you that perhaps you should go to older questions and steal other answerer's ideas if you would like to be voted best more often. I have the same problem as you.

Having been a teacher for over 15 years, success is measured in the WAY you communicate your answer to a person so that s/he can understand something really complex without getting a headache. It's HOW you boil something down to a lower level so that it's easily digestible, not how fast you type. Even though we're answering math questions around here, the way you spell and insert grammar is still important because it makes your words easier to read. So instead of being #1, take your time and answer thoroughly and in well written sentences.

I think you are just wrong and overanalyzing the situation. Why would someone show favoritism? What could they like about someone they don't know more than someone else they don't know? Sometimes you just get skipped over and alot of people are good at talkin' fancy. Don't worry about it, its not a game. Well it has points so it kind of is a game but there are way better games out there to play.

in no way,yet what does annoy me is while human beings consistently go with their companion/brother/sister/suited acquaintances as BA.questioning approximately Phillkins Lover right here ( or in spite of her call is),and her bf Phillkins, they continually %. one yet another as BA so particularly no element answering their questions.
