Do you think there is an age a daughter reaches when her dad should stop spanking her or can he til marriage?

I was always taught that fathers could spank their daughters at any age as long as they aren't married. What do you think?

A girl's never too old for a good spanking - and if she hasn't got a husband or boyfriend to take care of it, her father shouldn't neglect his parental duty.

i would agree with age 10...but some children do not respond to time outs. My boyfriends son will stand in the corner and just wait for it to be over..he doesn't think about what he's done or anything. However the kids that I babysit if you even mention the corner they stop fighting, yelling, crying whatever. If time out works, great, but sometimes other things are necessary. It is not abuse until there is a mark left on the body for more than 24 hrs. There is a huge difference from spankings and abuse. I definitely don't spank hard at all, but he cries and stops doing whatever he was doing. If my boyfriends son is running through the house and I tell him to stop twice...the third time he runs passed me. I trip him. He stops running. You can always take things away. If she talks back, she gets no tv for 2 days. She does it again, go for 3 or 4 days. Take away the computer, game systems, playing with friends, no desserts. Little things like that. Make sure you are consistant with whatever you decide to do.

I do not see any problem with a spanking. I fear I was raised by a very Old World father. I took a few red bottoms myself. By today's uber-liberal standards, it would have been deemed abusive. The way HE was raised a spanking was not abusive, and back in the 60's and 70's it was not.

I do not believe it is wrong, if it is not excessive. Today, however, you can, and just might, face criminal charges. Of course, if you do not spank your child, you can face criminal charges if someone just claims to have seen you spank your child or if your child reports you in a fit of pique.

Frankly, I would, were I a father, turn my child over my knee if he or she needed it. This would apply until they reached of legal age. Always clothed, of course. Never arbitrary, never excessive. The child would know, beforehand, the rules.

I would not make a good parent because I WAS raised so Old World. I would not be lax or permissive. However, I suspect that if I raised my child as I was raised, s/he would not come out like a rank hooligan either.

If the child fliches at a raised hand, that is ALWAYS a bad sign. If the child fears the parent, that is ALWAYS bad.

The last time I got spanked was at 16 years of age. With the crap I put my parents through in high school they definitely should've spanked me alot more than they did!

I feel that until your daughter is no longer living under your roof, she's under your authority.

To each their own, yet rejoice in her maturity, so as soon as she reaches an age of understanding where you can sit her down and talk to her refrain from the spankings. I believe that is the best approach.

I think as long as the daughter deserves it the father can spank her but when she's married it's probably the husband's job to discipline her.
Us women need to learn to be submissive and obedient and if spanking's the only way then we need to be spanked until we're taught our lesson!
