Try this (Works on Vista OS for sure)

execute regedit
- search the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\SYSTEM
\CurrentControlSet
\Control\Class
\{4D36E965-E325-
11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
- When you found it delete Upperfilter and/or lowerfilter entries.
- Reboot your system.

It's magic you'll see your DVD-ROM drive in your computeur again and it will work!!

Open The

Control Pannel-->Administrative Tools-->
Computer Management-->Disk Management

If you can see your CD Rom0 Device and there is no letter associated to it, then

Right click it and Click Change Drive Letter

and give it the Next Subsequent Drive Letter after the drives letters

TADAAAAAAAAaaa,, restart your computer, and Use your CD rom,

But if you cant see your CDROM0 in the disk management

Then Perhaps, either the Cables got a problem
or your CD Rom has gone to the Heavens

Replace it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Coz Everything on this Earth is Transient

Hope that satisfies your Question

Go to computer properties - hardware - device manager and look for the entry for CD drives. Open the item and delete from the profile. Close the window and reboot. The drive should be re detected. If not try a different drive.

If Restarting doesn't work, and you can't tell whether the cable is bad or not, open your hardware manager and check to see if your cd-rom is there. If it is, then it's just a glitch and restarting should help, if it's not, then it could be a bad driver. Get an updated or new driver from the manufacturers website and intall it. Restart the computer and presto, it should return.

But I'd try a restart first.

Hope this helps,

I've had that but rebooting works usually. I guess you've tried that if you've been looking at BIOS.
