Well I’m almost 23 and I work in an office environment (a law firm) I am the only “young” person here. Everyone is middle aged, and I feel out of place. (There is only 14 people here.)Everyone is nice and all, but they see me as the “kid” I know I can’t help the age difference, but what can I do to feel at their level. I mean, one time one of the attorneys took all of us to lunch and they were talking about who knows what and I couldn’t help but to day-dream and pick at my food, not so mature I know but like I said I couldn’t help it. I can’t help but to play with my hair and talk about guys to my 50 year old buddy here at work! Besides my actions not helping any, I look really young too. They’ve told me I look 17! What can I do to look more my age and fit in with these people? I wear office attire of course but something ain’t cutting it. Can it be my hair? It’s long and black, maybe I should try cutting it? Who knows, but some advice will really be appreciated!! Thanks!

ok,i never heard of a woman who wishes to look older...u know what,u should feel very happy instead, and enjoy the fact that ppl think u are still like around 18...this thing should not affect u...as long as u are determined and skilled in the job u do,it shouldnt be a problem, they will realize that u are a mature and hardworking woman, and they wont see u as a "kid" no longer.so,stay young, and stay beautifull

I was in the same situation (except in an real estate office) I was the youngest at 20, and everyone else was in their 40's to 50's, and I won their respect (they also started to treat me as a collegue) by realating to their everyday convorsations, and primarily listening more than talking, never boasting, and enhancing my vocabulary. The next thing I did was to work EXTRA hard, and bring my preformance WAY over par (I even got a compliment call from the owner of the buisness). All of the previously stated in conjunture with mature office attire will most certainly put you over the top, because its really not about looking more mature, its more or less winning their admiration and respect . Well, good luck and go get them..just remember : with hard work and a little preserverance you can do anything..by the way I am only 21 and still apear to be about 16 or so; I know how you feel.

To earn a status of respectability for your maturity there are a few things which you should keep in mind:

1. Develop your communication skills.
2. Talk less & to the point, try avoiding topics that are of little or no interest of others.
3. Try speaking only when and where required.
4. Have patience it seems you expect results too fast.
5. Be more sportic in life, others wud love your company then.
6. Modify the way you present yourself to others.
7. Maintain your identity and groom up your personality.
8. You may develop few style tantrams / appeals they may be your trump cards at times...

It's nothing to do with your hair rather playing with your hair, your daydreaming or your childlike talks can be your style tantram to attract others attention towards you too if utilized sensibly, all you have to do is best possible tackling of any opportunities generated by your persona and style tantrum...

I was the youngest one (by far) at a law firm. I enjoyed it. Enjoy being the young one. Everyone was interested in my life because it would relate with theirs, or shock them by how the "times have changed." But, I never played with my hair or rambled on about my love life. Just small talk. They know your age - don't try to be older. Also, when it was time for work - I worked.
You say you're not mature - if you're not - you're going to appear as a kid no matter what.
But, appearance (since that's what you asked) - short hair cut, or wear it up. Dress professional. And, whenever I wear my glasses - people say I look more mature.
But, you won't get that far on changing your looks - learn to act mature.

Light, more natural make up can help, because it shows you aren't experimenting much with your style anymore, you know what you want and who you are and there are no guessing games. Don't necessarily cut your hair, but maybe styles that are more grown up, like a half ponytail, or a clip. Long and straight can give the impression of childishness. Focusing more in public situations will make you seem less childlike, and most of all, worrying about it makes it worse, so just be yourself.

Well hey there,
i am only 17 years old and well people think that i am a six grader.. everybody at my school thinks that i should be at the middle school.. i really haven't thought of trying to look older, i think that i am good the way that i am .. yeah they treat me like a little girl, but they also make me feel comfortable...

but well i think that maybe if you change your hair and cut it kind of waive you can notice the difference but only a little bit... and also you should change the way that you dress to something open but at the same time not so open...

Be more confident in yourself remeber you can do anything you put your mind to. Always remeber where you are and what is require of you if that is too hard avoid going out with them and be yourself it cant kill you. You can also make them know you more and you wont feel bad about yourself. As for your hair go to the hair salon and make them work thrier magic. Good luck.

Remain the way you are and try to make a good contribution to their discussion and be respectable all the time. Don't make any mistake that will make you look silly in their present, make sure your dress decently while visiting you at the office. Good Luck.

Well - why? You ARE young. You're much younger than your co-workers. The office environment demands that they be collegiate, but you're NOT at the same level of maturity as they are. You're a young woman. Be that way. Enjoy it, even. They probably envy you.

Don't change your appearance. You should dress your age, not try to be someone you're not. (Office clothes are appropriate of course!)
To feel more "at their level," connect with your coworkers. Find things in common with them (even if they are stupid little things), ask them about themselves, listen!
Just stay yourself and be professional. If anything, they're probably thinking, "How can I look young again like her?!"
Good luck :)
