I agree, you very rarely see them.

You've got some numbers. Sort them from least to greatest.

The middle number (or their average if there are two) is the Median.

For the bottom half of your list, do that again; the median of this bottom half is the Lower Quartile.

Do the same to the top half of your list, to find the Upper Quartile.

Also include the bottom and top number of the whole list.

All told, you should have five numbers of interest. In order from least to greatest, they are:
Minimum, Lower Quartile, Median, Upper Quartile, Maximum.

Draw a horizontal number line. Mark these five numbers on it. Make a rectangle stretching from the lower quartile on the left, to the upper quartile on the right. This box represents the "middle half" of your list. Subdivide the box with a vertical line at the median. Draw horizontal lines from the two ends of the rectangle--the left one should stretch from the minimum to the lower quartile, while the right one should stretch from the upper quartile to the maximum.

Now you've got a box in the middle, with a whisker sticking off each end.

It starts with dividing your data into "quartiles." When you write your data in ascending order, first find the median (the 1 data point (or average of 2 points) in the middle). Then find the median of the two halves of data created by the median. Those are called Q1 and Q3. The ends of the box are formed by Q1 and Q3, with the median in the middle. The whiskers extend to the lowest and highest data points (also known as the "range").

It is a diagram that is supposed to make things concerning statistics more understandable to students. It is a straight line divided into 4 quarters. The two middle quarters are surrounded by a rectangle or box. So you have a box with rwo lines sticking out each end which are supposed to be whiskers.

Some idiot dreamed this up. Probably meant well, but in my opinion, it assumes that students are so stupid, they need crutches like this. It is your standard liberal viewpoint that everyone needs help and only they can provide it,

ok, the minimum is the mark on the left, then you definately could desire to make certain what the max is making use of the type (putting that on the suited area.) seventy 9 Then the field area- the decrease quartile first on the left- 40 two then the median, 60 and the better quartile you're able to desire to locate by including the interquartile to the decrease 40 two+28=70. this is your field. sturdy success!!

Yes, and other than tests, you will probably never use one. I work in middle school.
