I would suggest both, since the race is tougher for the Common admission tests [CAT]. you could also try the non IIM top rung business schools in india [i hope you are reffering to india] such as XLRI, Bajaj, Xa Bhuveshnwar etc. GMAT gives you the option of pushing off to the USA for your masters, where if you are going to pay your way through it may be lot more expensive than desi MBA unless you get a schol. even there you may want a top school. it is best to keep your options open.

The GMAT is only administered on a computer, in a format referred to as the CAT (an acronym for Computer Adaptive Test). The CAT is so named because it adapts to your performance question to question. If you get a question right, the test gets harder, if you get a question wrong it gets easier (more info on the CAT).

You only need the GMAT

The only thing you need for an MBA is the GMAT.

The course for both is similar. So preparing for one will help in the other. To study in USA you need a lot of money and few indians get scholarships. You want the top college but why should the top colleges want you? Even the not top colleges are useful.
