Definitely.
Especially in a trigger-happy nation of 'pretend' cowboys.
The ONLY country in the world where it is a 'right' to own a gun. In the rest of the 'civilised' world, it is a privilege.
Insecure bunch of wimps.

No; but neither do I think the "answer" is for (almost) every citizen to conceal and carry.
Strictly in terms of odds, it would make sense that the more guns there were in any given venue, the greater chance that ONE of the people in that group would be some kind of whacko; someone hovering on the edge of sanity, about to snap like a rubber band, and take someone (or some group) out - over nothing...

No. In places where there are gun prohibitions, violent crimes involving guns have skyrocketed. England and Australia are the current best examples of violent gun crimes going out of control. When guns are banned, the criminals have a field day. They don't obey laws to begin with. In the US we have the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution. So citizens have the legal right to bear arms. I think all adults should carry hand guns. No criminal is willing to enter into a fair fight when guns are involved.

People see things like this happen and think that it would not if no one had guns. That is entirely unrealistic as they do exist in this world and however much wishing you do, they will always exist. The problem with gun laws is that the reason governments make gun laws is to keep guns from falling into the wrong people's hands, criminals. The problem with this logic is obvious, why would a criminal not get a hold of a gun because of a law? Wouldn't he just break the law and obtain guns anyway? Of course he would. The problem with gun laws is they are meant to keep guns out of the hands of people that do not follow laws. If you think spending billions of dollars on banning guns will eliminate guns from America, you are terribly wrong... look at the war on drugs. Gun laws only effectively keep guns out of the hands of the people that should have them, law-abiding citizens.
It is actually a proven fact that banning guns in general actually INCREASES crime in a country, Britain and Australia. Banning guns only takes them away from the people we want to actually have. A criminal fears private citizens with guns the most. A cop will not shoot them, but a private citizen will. Taking guns away from people and making them rely on police leads to things like VA TECH. With question of police abuse aside, police cannot always be there and are 10 minutes away even if you do have a cell phone. Police cannot possibly prevent things like this from happening. Are we going to spend billions to have a policemen in every room in the country? Put the ability to protect oneself in the hands of the people most able to do so, the individual citizen. 32 people can die in 10 minutes, in 10 seconds, to 1 gunman. Had someone in the class been allowed to conceal and carry, maybe 32 people would not be dead. The government wants to take away guns, but cannot possibly replace the safety that they provide.
If everyone was required to own and know how to use a gun, things like this would be occurrences of the past. Those that want to say everyone owning guns would result in mass shootouts; I merely have to point to history... or to Texas. Everyone owns guns and somehow society manages to continue without mass shootouts. This is a decent question for everyone to ponder. Think about what I have said. Do not just dismiss me as some crazy gun-toting NRA member...

You can't prohibit guns. You can try but you will never make it happen. Remember there are guns from the Civil War era that still function properly and the one's made today have even better quality - they will outlive us - all of us and then some. There are tens of millions of them - possibly 100's of millions of them in the US - and our constitution grants us the right to own them. Dismantle the 2nd Amendment and the others will follow shortly there after.

Absolutely not.
1. No matter what laws are passed, there will always be a "black market" willing to supply weapons to those who want them no matter the cost (read CRIMINALS).
2. Man can think of many, MANY, other ways to kill and maim each other. If you banish firearms, criminals and other mental cases will move to something else (IED's for example)- how are you going to "prohibit" that? Or should we just child-proof and rubberize and medicate the entire country down to dreamland?

Maybe....
People always say they need a gun in their homes for protection, "just in case"...protection against what? If possession of guns was prohibited, any person that tried to break into your house wouldn't have a gun either.....
Then again, the constitution protects the right of ownnig a gun, not that other constitutional rights haven't been violated already....

Guns shouldn't be banned, but serious background checks should be conducted when people request gun licenses. If there is even the slightest chance a person may not be totally sane, he should not be able to legally acquire a gun.

No, if the purpose were legitimate for hunting for one's food, but if that was the only case they'd find a way to get around that too.
Anyway, we have such an abundance of beef, chicken, venison, pork, seafood, etc., in our local stores. Who needs to hunt. Man just want guns to slaughter others, bascially.
They also feel big and bad when they're totin' a "big gun" in their belt.
And then there's the police; gads, some of them shouldn't even look at a gun...it's all so chaotic. We'll just have to endure until Armageddon. Interesting question.

Absolutely no....we just need to find a way of keeping them out of the wrong hands....not everyone who owns a gun kills people with them. Families hunt for food with guns, sportsmen have competitions with guns, collectors cherish their guns, not only for the number on guns they own, but for the history behind those weapons and yes, some people have to protect themselves with guns and in most cases a gun is used as a last resort in stopping bodily harm to yourself or your family.

Not in the US I don't. First, it won't happen. The NRA and other gun advocates will never let it happen. 2nd, our culture won't really support it either. I doubt we could ever get a country-wide ban on weapons. And lastly, there are so many weapons already on the street and in homes that if a ban went into effect, a whole new black market will emerge. And criminals will always have them.
