A refund of the purchase price when you pay with credit card. It is actually paid for by the merchant who accepts the card, as he/she pays a small percentage of the price to the card company. They then give you some pittance as 'cash back'.

You can get money from your debit account at a store that offers cash back when you make a purchase.
eg. You want to buy something that is $5. You also want to have $20 cash in your pocket because you dont have any cash on you. So the cashier charges you a total of $25 to your debit account and then gives you $20 from the till in bills.
Cash back allows you to withdraw from your debit account without getting 2 withdrawal charges or going to the bank.

You can get cash back when you use a debit card. A debit card takes money directly from your bank account and wont let you go over the limit so you dont go into debt. The cashier will ask if you want cash back... say if you needed money. Like a bank.

cash back is when you use a credit card they cash register person will ask you an then you can say like 20 dollars and they will give it to you its like going to the bank except you cant get large amounts as you can at the bank.(theres a limit)

there are some different situations which we can use that term. if your friend give you back your money, thats cash back for you because you got your cash back. also in business, today a lot of companies use that term. for example, if you try our product and if you dont like it, we will cash back your money. so in this case, it means kinda refund.
