Seven.
One grandmother has one daughter, and one grandfather has one son. The grandparents are not married to each other, but are on different sides of the family.
This daughter and son are married, and have two girls and a boy.

There is one GM, and one GF, though not married to each other. Perhaps they are widow/widowers.
There are two mothers - the GM and her daughter.
There are two fathers - the GF and his son.
OK, there are 5 children, I messed up on this one. (Mom and Dad and their 3 kids, F/F/M)
There are 3 grandkids, the three kids of Mom and Dad.
One brother - the male child of Mom and Dad.
Two sisters - the female children of Mom and Dad.
Two sons - Dad and his son.
Three daughters - Mom and her two daughters.
One mother in law - Mom's mother, in relation to Dad.
One father in law - Dad's father, in relation to Mom.

No answer. Wouldn't this make 4 generations, with grandparents, parents, children, and grandchildren? The original question stated 3 generations...

8 because their would be the the grandmother, the grand father, one mother and the 4 children. The inlaws are from another family.

I agree with Wide Awake, except there is no daughter-in-law specified, and using his method, it would create a daugter-in-law, of the GF (or the grand parent whoever is not the parent of the Mom). Is this a typo in the question, or a catch?
