honestly, i feel sorry for those people. are they going to get a gold metal out of being rude and getting points?? i think its funny how they just say any old rubbish comment and to me it shows that they are cowards. its always safe to hide behind the curtain isn't it??? maybe they are all just little people who cannot bully anybody else in any other way(other than in yahoo! answers). those people who are rude and have called other people nasty names, i can almost guarantee you that they would NOT do that if they were in a real, in person situation! whenever i see bad answers now, i just laugh(honestly). they do just want a reaction!

I think you have them down to a tee in your question, they are just looking for a reaction, to see how many people they can hack off or how far they can go without getting a warning etc. Personally, I think they're childish. Can't they tell what people think of them from all the thumbs down?
The people who answer just for points are the lovely folks who answer "Sorry, don't know" or "No idea"

Unfortunately some people delight in demeaning others efforts at communicating and because they are anonymous and immune from retaliation, they feel they have the right to be abusive, nasty and inconsiderate when answering. We are not all MENSA members, many users are a sandwich short of the full picnic. The people, who give the answers you describe, are doing so because they can say on the internet the things they would never have the nerve or courage to say directly to your face. They also make no allowance for the feelings of the person they are public attacking, knowing that they are completely safe in their anonymity. They also obviously have never had a problem or question that they have needed assistance with or ever made a mistake in spelling or grammar.

holaa lol, the way I figure it-some are just mean-and the bible says if you try and correct a mean person they will be mean back to you, if you try and correct a fool they will try and make a fool out of you. But a wise person will not like it if you dont agree when they are wrong, but with time will be thankful.

It is time for people to be nice and not think others are just like themselves if a person is mean or a foolish person.

I am not going to lie. I do it sometimes. However, only to those 12 year old harlots asking if they are pregnant!
I mean. 12 year old? Whatever happened to barbie dolls?
Anyhow.. if someone asked something really personal or if it was something about connecting your IPod to your computer , I find that helping the person would give them more help than making fun of them. Although I totally agree with you and I'm really trying hard not to be a hypocrite but, sadly, yes. I do it too. To those irritating questions =P

Some people deserve rude answers. The ones who cannot spell or who use text-speak on the site. It is rude not to bother writing in English, and not using the spell checker is lazy and discourteous to those of us who attempt to maintain standards. I note a couple of the answers to this question fall into that category. You really must do better.

I also agree some people here do give rude answer just for the points, there is no need to say such mean things, the reason we ask questions is to get help, not rude remarks

I am sad for them and move on from that.
You are probably right that they would not dare being rude in front of a real person. Don't know if that would make it worse or better.

Thats life I suppose. It seems to me a lot come on here for different reasons other than finding answers or asking questions. You can report those who are abusive you know.

i think you have just opened the door for them now, bet you get loads. personally i think the majority of the answers are funny if taken in the context they are meant. it's the insensitive ones that get my goat.
