Do you mean CDs or floppies?
The 3.5" floppies no longer have to be formatted and can be taken from one PC to another without problem (that I know of).

CDs on the other hand -- I have two - a Dell and a Samsung. In order to use a CD like a floppy, you must use CD/RWs and they must be first formatted with the software that powers your burner. They can then be used as a floppy in your computer, however, they cannot be taken to someone else's computer unless you download a small program called a "Reader" -- from the burner's software website (Dell uses DLA -- Samsung uses Nero and the "Easy Write Reader."

You will save yourself a lot of aggravation by investing in a flashdrive. The prices are way down now, they hold a lot more data, easily transportable, no formatting required .......

Be careful taking files back and forth to work if anyone else has access to your computer. It's a good way to bring home a virus. (Been there, done that.)
