Because they can't live in fancy mansion's lol.

I think sometimes it is down to community and culture. Its not that they choose to live in urban area's its where the focus of there community is. Some times people want to be in close proximity of people who are the same as them in terms of culture. For example people who immigrate from a certain country will stay with family who are networked within a certain community in an area. They want to be an area where they live amongst people they can relate to.
In terms of inner cities, they are the busiest areas, which give opportunities for jobs and interaction with the wider society.
This is a bit of a generalisation, but I hope that it helps you take care XX

Urban Sprawl: The movement of people from not so pleasant inner city areas to nicer places in the suburbs because they can afford it.

You will note that all ethnicities live in the inner cities and in the suburbs, the main factor for moving is if you can afford it.

Sometimes you get inner city areas were there is a majority ethnic population. 2 reasons why they live there: Because they can not afford to move OR because they prefer to live in an area where people like themselves live as goods and services which would normally be available in their native country will almost undoubtably be available here.

For the same reason Polish people often live among Polish and Italians live among Italians - it feels like home. Poor people live in poor neighborhoods in the inner-city not on Park Avenue. Have you ever been to the Brighton Beach area in New York? It's a crime infested Russian ghetto, but some people love it because everything they know is there.

Well they usually like to live next to people who are also of the same extraction. Imagine you are to move to Spain and you hear that a certain area has a high proportion of English speaking ex-pats living there, with ex-pat shopkeepers etc, It might make you feel more comfortable and not so much as a n outsider. It might also be because it is close to the benefits office.

There are jobs there and that's where they can afford to live.that statement isn't entirely true that minorities live in the inner city.I don't live in the inner city and their are ethnic minorities around me.

I'm assuing it's because they don't have a choice due to finacial restraints. Plus, some ethnic minorities like to be around people of the same race.

What...you mean like the British in Southern Spain? Is it not that there's more of them...and like Brits on the Costa Del Sol, Asians realise they would not be seen in a good light if they went it alone in a better part of a city.

Careful with your language here. That's a very un-PC thing to say. I would like to translate it if I may:

Why do poor people live in inner city areas?

The answer is that poor people live where they can afford to live. Blighted/econimically depressed areas (i.e. the inner city) have lower rent. Also, HUD (welfare) housing is on low-demand real estate.

So, it's *economic*--not racial-- factors that determine where certain groups live. Some of these groups *just happen* to share physical characteristics.

They tend to live in area's where people with similar ethnicitics live. Historically it started in cities with places like Little Italy, Hells Kitchen and Chinatown. It gave immigrants some security knowing they were surround by like people.
