You're not dumb. Emo is dumb. It's a type of music. EMOtional music. Their teenage fans are in a huge state of angst and can't seem to find a comb.

emo is emotional, those kids that all like wearing dark things, generally tight, with metallic and leather accesories (do not confuse with GOTH kids) they are most of the time depressed, trying to find a meaning in life and enjoy pain. They listen to music such as My Chemical Romance.
watch out, most of the people that act emo are just posing, they aint really emo.

Emo isn't actually from 'Emotional,' it's from 'Emotive Rock'.
But the kids who listen to it are called Emos. Which, everyone just assumed, meant Emotional.
They cry alot, wearing dark clothes, slit their wrists, have MySpaces, and write poetry.

EMO- tional. some say they are more depressed than a goth, they have a reputation 4 cuttin their wrists and cryin in the corner, tend to have tunnels in their ears, many have their hair dyed black and lip pieceings, um boys tend to have a long and large fringe coverin half their face, some will have green in their hair, otherwise red/purple

It a a emotional (emo) kid that likes to cut him or herself and wears black and talks about suicide. New kinda Goth.

it means over-emotional, most stereotypical emos have a side fringe coming across their face and slit their wrists and stuff. But not all do, some are all right.
