Ok I am the Eyelash Curler queen...so
Shu Uemura is the obvious one. It's a real classic, availble from mail order (Harvey Nichols) or their store in Covent Garden.
Shiseido also do a curler - a lot of Chinese women prefer this cut to the Shu - this is availble from Shiseido counters. Now it depends how much time you have, but I highly recommend you order them from www.adambeauty.com.
They are very good and take 3 days to deliver from HK (I use them all the time!) and its also much cheaper from them.
Also - Shu & Shiseido adapt their UK curlers slightly because the asian eye is a different shape the the western. Therefore, the ones you buy in the UK will work well up to an extent - but one that you actually buy from HK will be made of the Chinese eye (less curve at the edges).
Alternatively, there are sellers on Ebay who sell curlers made in HK. There are many other brand such as SANA who make good curlers...generally good ones are hard to find.
Oh or you can get her a voucher to get her lashes permed! Its availble in many salons, normally cost £20.

The Shu Uemura eyelash curler is legendary. The company is Japanese, but women around the world swear by it. I am Asian American with the same problem as your friend, and I LOVE my Shu Uemura curler! If you live near a Sephora, you can find one there. You can also order one online.

If it's so troublesome, then why don't you buy something else for her birthday? Like, an eyelash curler is not the only possible birthday gift in england.

hey pet just dont oither emphasize the natural curve of her eyelid using a dark eyeshadow as an eyeliner and slightly sweeping out and upwards at the edge of eyelid. blot excessive mascara off the wand gently rolling it onto a tissue before applying it on to your lashes (dont overload) wait for it to dry & gently use an eyelash brush or clean dry mascara brush to brush lashes upwards slightly curling it out. do this and apply thin layers of mascara until you reach your desired effect. good luck babe xxx
