I didn't say he or anyone politician can correct what the government has done by advoiding to abide by their promise to us of free Medical. No it isn't for fighting in a war, it is just the fact of being in the military. As for the flag burning which will always be an on going battle. Last year the amendment to rattify the burning of the flag and making it inconstituional was brought to a vote and the Senate shot it down. The Flag represents the Freedom of this country and since there seems to be people that doesn't understand anything about the flag, then they may want to lok it up before they speak. The red Stripes in fact represents the Blood that was shed by the soldiers to keep our country free. I guess to have to fight in a war to really understand that fact. Burning our Flag is wrong, and if you want to burn it then you don't need to be in this country. Plain and simple.

A flag is nothing but a cloth symbol. Burning one does nothing to hurt our country.

That said, I would favor legislation that decriminalizes the act of kicking the crap out of flag burners. In fact, pass legislation that rewards those who kick the crap out of flag burners.

The basis of this country was and still is freedom. Being a US citizen is advanced citizenship. You can't have your freedom to say something is wrong without giving someone else the freedom to say it's right.
As for the burning of the flag - most of the US flag burning I've seen lately has been in other countries by people that hate America, or by protestors desperately trying to make their point.
I will say I agree with you, to burn the US flag is wrong in my eyes. It's disrespectful to the men and women who have given their lives to make this country what it is today. However, I will not say making it illegal is right either. Because those same men and women fought for that right too.
I don't think you have to fight in a war to understand exactly what the flag means to any American. I agree it should stand for something - pride - respect - freedom. I know that's what it means to me. I disagree that if someone doesn't "get that" they don't need to be in this country. That's a miopic view of the world.
The point to this issue is that it makes your blood boil to see a precious icon as the flag disrespected in this manner - but what America is and means shouldn't be completely tied into one icon. You feel strongly, and I applaud you for stating your position - just remember those soldiers you spoke so eloquently for will point out that freedom means while you hold the flag so dear, there are other citizens that see it as a bargaining chip. Disgusting as it may be - that's what freedom is. Because one of the "RIGHTS" that soldiers fight and die for is the right to say what's in your heart, mind and soul. Even if someone is screaming at the top of their lungs supporting the very thing that you've spent your lifetime trying to put down.

Just because you disagree with it (I do too) doesn't mean it shouldn't be protected speech. The first ammendment was invented to protect unpopular speech.

If you start with flag burning what's next? How many kinds of speech will have to be supressed? And after that, what will the flag stand for?
