My father was lying on his death bed. I had come home to sleep, and feel asleep on the couch. I woke up to a news break saying that Princess Diana had been injured in a car wreck in Paris. Walker, Texas Ranger was playing. When I woke back up, the news was on continuously, and I just couldn't make sense of it all. I went to the hospital the next morning, and my Dad was awake enough to ask "when did it happen"?

The day of her funeral, I walked down the hall of the hospital towards his room, and every television in the hospital was turned onto the funeral. Every step I took was accompanied by funeral music. I rounded the corner, and found my mother in the hallway. She said "He was gone when I got here".

Princess Diana's death and funeral always stir those deeply personal memories for me. It also serves to remind me that death is no respecter of persons.

I was in my then girlfriend's parents' house (she and I have since married). We were sitting in her room just talking and listening to music when her mom came into the room and told us she had just heard on the news that Lady Diana had died. I was shocked. My first thought was to call my grandma (she is from England and loves the royal family). Then I called my mom. It is hard to believe that it was that long ago. It seems like only a year or two have gone by.

I was up late at night for some reason and I heard it on the radio--I was so shocked for some reason, really shocked even though I was 12 and hadn't really paid too much attention to Princess Diana. It sounds silly, but maybe it was because we shared a birthday?

I can't remember what I was doing on the Friday evening, but the day after was Saturday, and I remember walking down the street in Canterbury (England) with my husband. We chanced to meet my husband's friend Ben, and when we talked about it, we all seemed to be confused at how personal and intense the public grief was. I said, "There wouldn't be so much fuss if Mother Teresa died." Ben said, "Mother Teresa is dead." Mother Teresa's death was told in a single paragraph somewhere in the middle of the newspaper.

I had just turned the bedside radio on at 6 am to get the weather. I was so stunned that it took a few minutes to really sink in. Then I raced downstairs for the TV coverage, first time I had been up that early in a long long time.

It was Saturday afternoon (NZ) and I was reading a paper and listening to the radio. I remember thinking that it was a really sick joke and that the DJ should be fired. When I heard it again later and it sank in I remember feeling quite dazed and shocked. I don't think of myself as a royalist, but it really had an effect on me.

I was on vacation in Seattle. I was at a music festival and sitting in the front of the stands of a soccer stadium. The buzz went through the crowd from the back like a wave. It was weird, you new something was up, and it took a little bit before the information got through the crowd to us.

I'm in uk and it was the early hours of the morning and I was half watching the news, then the report came on that Dodi had died and Diana had suffered a cut thigh, this was quickly changed to her having passed away,it was shocking,I absolutely detest the royal parasites and she was doing a brilliant job of showing the world exactly what horrible inbred monsters they are.she was my hero for that one small thing.

At home (in MA) getting ready for bed when it came over the 11 o'clock news. A few minutes later they had hooked up to Paris. The American Reporter in Paris and the local one at home were all choked up in disbelief. We in America were shocked, stunned and saddened by this tragedy
I still miss her.
