being a mechanic is not a straight forward yeah this is wrong let me fix it. mechanics have to do a lot of trouble shooting to find out exactly what is wrong with vehicles now a days. one problem may actually cause 10 more and that may be why they are still ordering parts. what exactly is wrong with the car that it has been in there for 3 months, is it brand new? if it is it could fall under the lemon law. if not there is not much that would take 3 months to do unless the shop is completely busy 24/7. especially being paid already

You are pretty vague as to what is wrong with the car, that has to have parts on order for 3 months.
big mistake to pay before the job is done. It's time to get a lawyer and your car and money back.
When you call, or better yet go down to the shop, next time and ask him what exact parts are on order, get the date ordered and from whom and the number of the part. Then you can see if he is lying or not. Yeah, I know he is too. But at least you can verify the fact.
He is busy, I'm sure. And since he has your money, your job is something to do when he really is waiting parts for the other jobs, that haven't paid yet.

The majority of mechanics are honest, hardworking people, but, like any profession, there are always a few bad apples in the bushel. You have not specified as to the type of work that you are having done. If you have asked to have some sort of performance work done, and have asked for special parts, the technician has to special order them, and can't return such purchases. I'd like to add that there are FAR MORE dishonest professions for you to distrust.

Well, without knowing the specifics I can't say whether your mechanic is lying or not. As an automotive service professional though I can definately attest to the fact that what I tell customers and what they hear/remember are rarely the same thing.

I wouldn't say liars either. but I'd very much agree with us being manipulators. We do it because we can. We have the wit and the charm to sway the opionion and actions of others. =] I don't hink it makes us horible people. It just makes us incredibly awesome lol. Some people just can't comprehend it =P We have this gift because the Leos got the confidence and the Geminis get the crazy sex. lo

You should never pay until the job is competed satisfactorily. You do have legal recourse against him. I do not believe he is waiting on parts. He could have built a new car in less than 3 months.

Uh....why did you pay before the job was done? You need to take this guy to court...there's no reason for any car to be in any shop for 3 months!!! Something is terribly wrong.
