"Digs" can refer to a living or workspace. So "nice digs" would be a compliment on one of these places.

Anyway, "digs" dates to the 1830s and seems to have first been used in England in reference to a boarding house, a place where young bachelors found room and board.

No one seems to know for sure, but it probably came from "diggings," meaning a miner's claim.

Wow. Who knew? *shrugs* :)

Nice house you live in. Digs is the name for army accommodation, but has become slang for where you live.

Usually they are referring to where you live, the fact that they like your place. That it's really nice.

It's an introduction when you meet a stranger. You are showing the other person that meeting them is a pleasurable experience and you're glad to have met them.
