I was rearended in a mercury sable. The Ford dealer said it would cost $700 bc they would have to replace it. My dad did it for free. Some compound he put on it to soften it. It was in rough shape and when he was done (about an hour) it looked almost as good as new. If I find out what he used, I will get back to you.
